Welcome back WormholeRiders,
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is an enjoyable movie that was enjoyed by millions when it was released on June 30, 2023 in the United State subsequent to the premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18, 2023. Released in over fifty countries worldwide thereafter, with theater receipts over $400,000,000 to date the film has earned a respectable profit for Disney Studios which purchased Lucas Films ILM, and Paramount Studios, the original producer and distributor of the film series. I subsequently enjoyed the film again with my family when it was released for purchase on digital and look forward to watching yet again when it is released on Disney Plus December 01, 2023!
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is the sequel to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) that followed the Indiana Jones and Temple of Doom (1984), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989). Dial of Destiny is the fifth and reported to be the final installment of the Indiana Jones film series that began in 1981 with the classic Raiders of the Lost Ark.
It was nice to see Harrison Ford return as well as many other actors featured in the five film series including Karen Allen and John Rhys-Davies. New additions to the Indiana Jones saga series included Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, and Mads Mikkelsen who was excellent as the primary villain and many other talented actors to complete the adventure series of films that delineated many mythological sagas over the course of several thousand years of human history.
Therefore it was a special treat to have been invited to attend the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Press Room at San Digo Comic-Con 2023 to interview members of the Visualization Team that made the movie not only possible, but could not have ensured the willing suspension of disbelief that is vital to the overall success of an entertainment project.
As with virtually all entertainment efforts, especially movies and television, a professional Visualization Team is essential to the success of the project. Visualization Teams enable viewers to make bridges in their minds by employing, or trying out some experiments between studio departments that have a crazy idea that may or may not work. Visualization Teams “throw things at walls” and see if they will stick in the minds of viewers.
One such critical visualization is the Antikythera mechanism, estimated to be over 2,000 years old, that was discovered in 1901 among the wreckage retrieved from a shipwreck off the coast of the Greek island Antikythera, hence it’s name. Believed to be a mechanical astronomical computer, the Antikythera device, replete with obvious gears and mechanisms, is at the heart of the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny movie mythology!
