Welcome Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Comic-Con Lovers!
On Thursday July 25, 2024 TeamWHR had the distinct honor and privilege of interviewing cast members of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and the special effects supervisor courtesy of 20th Century Studios and Gary Miereanu in their Press Room about this marvelous movie that builds on the legendary Planet of the Apes film franchise that began with the original movie from 1968.
The recently released Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes movie is set many years after the conclusion of a war torn world in 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes.
Since the end of the war, many apes societies from that era have grown spiritually from when a Moses like character named Caesar (a characterfirst introduced in the 1970’s film series), who brought his people to an oasis where they could hopefully live in peace after years of the endless conflict with humans.
In the meantime human beings have been reduced to a wild animal like existence, essentially hated by many of their simian counterparts for their role in destroying civilization as the franchise chronicles.
In the far distant future of Earth, before Charlton Heston ever visited the Planet of the Apes, some simian groups had not heard of Caesar, the talking ape. As we learned, power hungry apes twisted Caesar’s existence for their own political power in misguided misadventures to expand their own kingdoms.
In this new setting, one ape leader named Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand) begins to enslave other simian groups in order to find ancient human technology that will likely expand Caesar’s political power over all others.
Stargate fans will recall Kevin’s role as the evil System Lord Zipacna in the longest running scripted science fiction series in the twentieth and twenty first centuries spanning ten seasons and three films!
A good ape named Noa (Owen Teague) who had witnessed his own clan of simians be taken hostage by the evil power mad apes, begins an adventures to find freedom for all creatures, simian and human.
A young human woman named Nova (Freya Allan) becomes key to the efforts of Noa’s quest.
During the Press Room, Erik Winquist shared details of his work as special effect supervisor that made Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes facial expressions more realistic than any previous iteration of an “Apes” film utilizing all digital simian characters.
As we also discovered in the film, now available on Hulu or for digital purchase, or on YouTube, Nova has plans of her own that will no doubt lead to a follow up sequel to this movie probably already in development at 20th Century Studios. We can’t wait for the next “Apes” film, can you!?!
We leave you for now with our Press Room interviews. Enjoy!
