Sweet Sorrow

I have determined that there is nothing sadder than having to leave a convention knowing full well that your chances of coming back the next year are pretty much nil. I cried this morning. I didn’t want to leave. I love the people, the atmosphere, and knowing that I’m surrounded by people who understand the obsession! Everyone is just as nuts as I am, and that’s comforting. Of course I’m sure that someone living in a sanitarium could feel the same way . . . but I digress!

Everything ended so quickly yesterday! I came out of the auditorium after Amanda Tapping’s Q&A and had half a thought to look at the merchandise tables one more time – even though I’m completely broke now – only to find boxes already packed and set to ship out! I went down a floor to pick up my one and only photo op – which I will reveal later – and had to wait for two hours in line. I didn’t mind. I got to meet some very nice people, hand out a few business cards, and reminisce. We talked about everything, from the Cabaret, to Dan Shea’s inability to stand still, to how we got hooked. By the time I got my image file I was really sad to be leaving.

I wanted at least one more day to try and track down some locations that I knew about and had addresses for – the church from “Red Sky”, the hospital from “Changeling”, and the Richmond sand dunes, which was the location for every desert planet – particularly Abydos – that SG-1 and Atlantis ever visited. I did succeed in finding the fire-hall from “Changeling” and Fraiser University where “Pretense” and “Between Two Fires” was shot. That’s right, it was the Tollan’s planet! I’ll post those pictures soon. Sadly the other two addresses turned out to be incorrect, and my GPS couldn’t find any dunes in Richmond, no matter what I did!

*Sigh*

All I can do now is begin the countdown for the Chicago convention. Only 5 months and a couple weeks to go!

Right now I have to hit the hay, though. As we move back East we loose a couple hours, so I need my sleep. Tonight we’re back in Coeur d’Alene Idaho, and tomorrow we’ll aim for Billings Montana. Yes, I’m a dork. I think of Martin Loyd when I think of Billings. I told you I’m a nut!

More to come in the days ahead, I promise! And thanks to everyone who has visited commented on this blog! Stick around, I’m just warming up!

That's a Wrap!

I want to apologize for not posting the last couple days. Along with all the loot I picked up at the convention, I seem to have gotten a small cold free of charge. I’ve been forced to go to bed early, especially for me. That, and I had very little […]
