Hey there Comic Con fans!
After preview night I had a feeling I had gotten myself into something massive.
I had no idea how right I was.
Yikes!
Thursday
I was up early but slow moving. Not a good start for the first full day of the convention. Not surprisingly, parking was hard to find. We went to five or six full parking lots before we found a space.. We almost missed getting into Hall H, the biggest panel room at the convention center. I think it holds over 6,500 people. When I finally DID make it in, I couldn’t believe how many people were there. It was standing room only for the entire day. I could feel the excitement. They don’t clear out the panel rooms and there was plenty I wanted to see in Hall H, so I decided to keep my seat and watch the panels there all day. It meant missing some panels in other rooms, but these are the decisions you have to make when going to a larger convention. It’s impossible to see and do everything.
Megamind was the first panel of the day. I didn’t know much about it aside from knowing it is another DreamWorks movie. I’m a huge DreamWorks fan so I had a feeling I’d love what I was about to see. Also, I was given 3-D glasses when I walked into the theater. Everyone was really excited when the MC came out and said we had a special guest. I was sitting a bit far from the stage but I saw a guy in blue paint and a funny costume come running out onto the stage. He said he’d brought donuts for everyone and wasn’t aware there’d be so many of us. I realized he was Will Ferrell badly dressed as Megamind. Ferrell stars as the villain in the DreamWorks movie. It’s their first superhero movie and from the 3-D clip I saw, it looks hilarious. Not only that but I definitely think I can bring both my nine and sixteen year old daughters to see it.
What is Megamind? Many people have asked. It’s DreamWorks’ first super hero movie. It stars Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill and Brad Pitt. After seeing the preview, in 3-D, I have to say it looks AWESOME! Basically it’s a “what if the bad guy wins” story. Tina Fey then joined Ferrell on the stage. She looked beautiful and was dressed nicely, no surprise there. Jonah Hill looked adorable in his blazer and pants. He was the last one on the panel. Well, that’s not totally true. They did bring Brad Pitt out—in cardboard cutout form. Megamind will be out in theaters this November. I can’t wait!
Tron was next. I have to say I have been geeking out over a new Tron movie. I did love the first one. To call this version a reboot is an understatement. As Jeff Bridges put it, the new movie makes the original look like an old black and white film. This is another 3-D movie that I cannot wait to see in the theater. The few minutes I saw have completely sold me on it. I love that Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner are both in the new version. Patton Oswalt was the moderator for this panel. I loved that the original creator of Tron, Steven Lisberger, was also a guest. It seems they have tried hard to keep the integrity of Tron in the movie but improve it so it fits in with this millennium instead of the last one.
It’s been 27 years since the first Tron was in theaters. Wow. That makes me feel old. I’m not going to lie. Starring in the movie are Michael Sheen and Olivia Wilde. After we saw the movie clip we were told if we were a good audience we’d get to be in the movie. They needed crowd noises. We were instructed to look at the screen and say exactly what was on the screen with the bouncing disk (get it, not a ball because it’s Tron) landed on the word. So… if you listen closely in the movie you may be able hear me yelling. We had to say things like, “Disk! Wars!” and “Rinz! Ler!” and “Dee! Rez!” Then they wanted foot stomping. It may not sound exciting but just trying doing that in a room full of 6,500 geeks and not get excited. I could not help myself. It was fun even if we’re not actually used in the movie.
Tron will be coming to theaters December 17, 2010.
Jack Sparrow interrupted our break in Hall H to tell us he was not looking for pirates to sail with him on a new Adventure. Apparently Disney will be releasing the fourth pirates movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, next May. Also, Gillermo del Toro came on stage to let us know about a new “Haunted Mansion” reboot. They won’t be calling Eddie Murphy for this one. Del Toro said it will be scary so be sure to bring your children. I’m a Haunted Mansion fan, I love the ride. I’ve grown up going on it. I really hope the reboot is an improvement over the last version.
During the break between panels, Pauly Shore walked in and signed autos for people. That was bizarre. Although, as I would later find out, not terribly bizarre. Guests have a habit of walking in on other panels and surprising the fans. That’s certainly a cool thing about Comic Con.
Next up was the “Salt” panel starring Angelina Jolie. She looked gorgeous as ever. I was impressed to learn that she did her own stunts for the movie. I saw the preview and I think the woman has no fear. If you’re an Angelina Jolie fan and/or an adrenaline nut you’ll probably want to check out this movie. It’s already in theaters.
I have to say the fan oddly dressed as Spider-man that went to the Q&A mic surprised us all by asking a serious question about stunts. What did he ask exactly? I can’t remember. I just know we were all so distracted from his outfit that we were laughing. All of us, that is, aside from Angelina Jolie. She listened and answered him. She was very respectful of the fans and gracious, too.
I’d never heard of Battle Los Angeles. I do like the whole “aliens invade earth and we have to fight them or die” type of movie. Like Independence Day or even Signs. Battle Los Angeles is this type of movie. It stars Michelle Rodriguez and Aaron Eckhart, is produced by Neal Moritz and will be out in theaters March 11, 2011.
I took a break from Comic Con because I was invited to take a tour of the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln. How could I pass that up? Captain Mueller was kind enough to get us on board and show us as much of the carrier ship as we could handle in about two hours. I feel like I crawled all over every inch of that place.
I’m guessing that we only saw less than a sixth of it. We were very spoiled as we were allowed into the bridge. What amazed me is how high-tech it all is. Don’t mess with the Lincoln. With five thousand troops on board and people watching both the surface and the skies, not to mention all the fire power, you’ll regret starting a fight with that ship.
After such a long tour of climbing up and down stairs (hey! It’s a workout! You try it and then tell me it’s not!), we went for dinner on Coronado Island. Then I was done for the day. Even though Thursday was a crazy busy day I knew that Friday would make Thursday look like a cakewalk. I needed all the rest I could get. What I wondered as I went to bed was, “Will I survive Friday?”
Friday
Another early start. Up and out of the condo before 6:15 am. I’d spent part of the previous day running around one of the largest conventions in existence and the other part of the day running around one of the largest carrier vessels ever created. I really didn’t want to miss any panels, so I was up and ready to start the second busiest day of Comic Con. And according to TagHive on Twitter, I was already the top tweeter for the convention. I had my work cut out for me.
Of all the things on the agenda for Friday, I was most looking forward to the Tweet House party that night. We realized that while parking near the U. S. S. Midway was a good idea it meant a very long walk to the convention center. Luckily we found a rickshaw for hire! So we hopped in and our driver got us to the convention in record time. Plus, he was kind of cute.
Today we would spend the majority of the day in Ballroom 20. I think it’s the second largest panel room. The Stargate Universe panel was up first. I noticed that Louis Ferriera’s name was not up on the table but Alaina Huffman’s name was. Although I was sad about missing Ferriera, I was excited to see Huffman again. She’s absolutely a wonder-person.
The guests were Alaina Huffman, Ming Na, Robert Carlyle and last but certainly not least, David Blue. The moderator was none other than Robert Cooper. I could not wait for this panel to begin. Finally, Mr. Cooper introduced the guests and the fun began. Ming Na cracked us all up by petting her iPhone and calling it her iPrecious.
David Blue said that nerds need love too. As a nerd I could not agree more. I think nerds may even need more love than non-nerd people. The news that surprised many people is Eli finally gets love. Apparently he winds up involved with a Lucian Alliance woman. I’m hoping Eli is treated well.
Alaina Huffman was asked how she can play a character who seems the complete opposite of her. I have to agree. TJ is very serious and even sad. In contrast, Huffman is bubbly, happy and fun to be around. Huffman explained that she lives in the moment. She also said that “work is a relax” for her. She juggles three kids, a husband and a brother at home. She is one busy woman. Ming Na had us all applaud Huffman for being able to handle all those responsibilities. There is no doubt that this cast greatly appreciates and respects one another.
Robert Carlyle directs an episode in the next part of season two. It will be called “Pathogen.” I also here we will get to see the bridge, finally, of the Destiny. And emotions are escalated. It sounds like season two is just getting started.
The biggest news of the entire panel is that David Hewlett and Robert Picardo will be making guest appearances on Stargate Universe as a crossover type episode with Stargate Atlantis. I’ve mentioned I’m a squirrel. For those of you who haven’t heard me shout that from the rooftops, being a squirrel means I’m a fan of David Hewlett’s. I have missed Rodney so much! That should be a fantastic episode. And honestly, I’ve missed Woolsey, too. It will be great to see both of them.
All too soon the SGU panel was over. Next up was Caprica. I’ll be honest. I don’t watch Caprica. Nothing against it. I just watch way too much television (if there is such a thing) and cannot watch everything. Although I’d really like too. Anyway, the Caprica panel was cool. I think it’s the first James Marsters panel I’ve seen. I was excited about that because I’m a fan of his since I saw him play Spike on Buffy.
The cast says to expect great things for the next season of the show. Alessandra Torresani says that you won’t expect what’s happening. Sounds like there is definite girl power to be seen. Marsters made a joke about being on Buffy and how maybe, just maybe he’d seen tough girls fight. He said he can actually identify with his character, Barnabas Greeley, but thinks he carries things too far. And Alessandra says that she has to show most of her character’s emotions through her eyes which is tough to do. Sasha Roiz also stars on the show and was at the panel. Caprica sounds like a complicated, thought provoking show.
Bazinga! I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was UBER excited about the Big Bang Theory panel. I’ve been watching this show since the pilot and have been hooked ever since. In fact, I’m in major withdrawal without new episodes to watch each week. I knew that something was different about this panel because they brought out instruments like a cello, accordion and an acoustic guitar. I’d never seen that before and couldn’t figure out what they were up to. Not even when they handed us all lyrics to the theme song for the show. It’s performed by a band I love, The Bare Naked Ladies. The panel was being introduced and we were asked if we liked the theme song. Of course everyone in the room is agreeing when all of a sudden the Bare Naked Ladies were introduced! They jumped out on stage literally just feet in front of me and started playing the theme song. I could NOT believe my eyes. Fortunately we had cameras with us. I have pictures to remind myself it did happen.
We got to sing along with one of my favorite bands to a theme song to one of my favorite shows. Does life get any better than this? It does! Because then they brought out almost the entire cast of the show. All the big names were there, Penny, Sheldon, Wolowitz, Raj and Leonard (Kaley Cuoco, Jim Parsons, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, and Johnny Galecki respectively). Not only that, Wil Wheaton was the moderator. Wheaton plays an evil version of himself on the show. It was a fantastic panel.
I was surprised when Wheaton said he believes Cuoco is the geekiest one on the set. I’m still not sure if that’s true or not. Although she’s a massive Harry Potter fan and was the first one on the set to have a Kindle, she didn’t know who Wheaton is when she was told he would be guest starring on the show.
A fan wanted to know if there would be any chance of The Big Bang Theory going to Comic Con. The producers gave one of the best answers, “We’re an indoor cat.” They said they are so used to filming on sets and in controlled environments that they would not be sure how to attempt filming at Comic Con. That’s too bad, though. It would be a funny episode, I’m sure, if they could figure out how to be an outside cat.
Expect to see the evil Wil Wheaton appearing at some point. I’m looking forward to that. I think Wheaton has brought something extra geeky and special to the show. For any Star Trek/Big Bang Theory fans out there I’m sure you know what I mean.
Then the cast treated us to a live performance of “Soft Kitty.” Although at first Parsons complained when the request was made, saying it’s only for when you’re sick. Mayim Bialik is also expected to appear in the upcoming season. All too soon, the panel was over. I was actually sad. It was the first Big Bang Theory fix I’d had in weeks. Now I have to wait for the new episodes beginning this September.
I decided to take a break from panels and go check out the Exhibitor Hall again. I did some shopping and more window shopping. Then I was hungry. I decided to try out Café Diem. I’d heard it was pretty cool and also had good food. The thought of sitting down at a restaurant a bit away from the crowd sounded very appealing, too.
Café Diem was a lot of fun. Syfy seemed to go all out transforming the place into the restaurant on Eureka. Even the menus were all Syfy foods. I rested my tired feet and filled my empty belly. It was a much needed break from all the crazy chaos of the convention. I was done eating and doing some writing when someone caught my eye. I looked over and had to laugh to myself. There was a guy walking around who looked just like Eureka’s Sheriff Carter. The fabulous and talented Colin Ferguson. But I knew it wasn’t him. I mean, if I were him would I show up at Café Diem? Well, actually that is something I would do. Then I realized a girl with a remarkable resemblance to Zoe Carter, the sheriff’s daughter, was standing next to him. Finally it dawned on me: I was looking at THE Colin Ferguson and THE Jordan Hinson! How crazy is that?!
I had to run over and introduce myself. They were very gracious and allowed me to take a picture with both of them. I have to say that both Ferguson and Hinson are wonderful people. Plus Hinson is even more adorable in person, as if that’s possible.
I went back and sat down and just as I did so in walked Sasha Roiz and Alessandra Of Caprica! While Alessandra was busy getting her picture taken in the Syfy picture machine, I asked Sasha if I could have a picture with him. He generously agreed. As you can see from the picture he’s a very short man. And I told him so. I think I confused him at first but then he laughed and said that somehow he looks so tall on camera but is actually very short in person. I’m guessing he comes in at just under 6’ 6”. Small fry.
Next up was the Tweet House party aboard the U.S.S. Midway. I know, I know, TWO carrier ships in the same number of days. I was a lucky girl. I wanted to arrive at the party on time because rumor had it none other than William Shatner would be landing a helicopter on the ship. Wasn’t I bummed to find out that Shatner landed almost an hour before the party started. However, he did stay and talk a bit. So that was good.
There was also a Pixar panel and a couple of bands played including Heavy Young Heathens. I was exhausted at this point. So it was time to call it a night. After all, the biggest day, Saturday, was still ahead of me. I had been warned that it would make the other days so far pale in comparison.
Saturday
I was surprised I woke up for my alarm. And I hurt all over. I was so tempted to sleep in and miss half the day. Comic Con is like running a marathon. Or so I would guess. I’ve never actually run a marathon. I felt like I had, though. Or that I’d been hit by a truck. However there were places to go and people to gawk at! I got up and forced myself to get dressed and ready for the day.
To be honest there was one word that kept me motivated: Chuck! First up was the Chuck panel. I’m a huge Chuck fan, haven’t missed an episode yet, and could not wait for the panel. I’d been told that Jeffster actually performed at last year’s Comic Con. We were told to expect something different. Some of us speculated if someone different would be performing. I was hoping that wasn’t the case, I did want to see Jeffster live.
Turns out there was a Jeffster video done to Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance. Naturally it was hilarious! As we’re watching the video and laughing, I start hearing people cheering. I look away from the video screen and see Jeffster on stage! They were dancing for us! EPIC!
They danced for a bit and had the entire crowd laughing. Then the entire cast of Chuck came out! I mean basically EVERYONE I would consider a major or somewhat important character. Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Sarah Lancaster, Adam Baldwin, Joshua Gomez, Ryan McPartlin, Mark Christopher Lawrence joined Vik Sahay and Scott Krinsky on stage. And that wasn’t all! After they all danced for us they threw “Nerd” tee shirts out into the audience. Thanks to the great arm on Jeremy, I am now the proud own of a “Nerd” shirt thrown by non other than Chuck himself! Woohoo! I’ll wear it with major geek pride. I mean nerd pride.
They certainly gave us some spoilers. Such as who will be playing Chuck’s mother, will Jeffster return and what guest stars we can expect to see on the show. The answers are Linda Hamilton, yes and the Old Spice Guy, Isaiah Mustafa respectively. The next season of Chuck is going to be everything I’ve come to love in the show and more. I will certainly be tuning in to watch.
Family Guy followed the Chuck panel. What I will remember most is how Seth MacFarlane sang as the voice of Stewie while we watched a video of it, live. That was pretty amazing. I don’t think he made a single mistake. Singing is hard enough, but add to that singing in another character’s voice live in front of 4,500 people AND timing it right so it’s in sync with a video is nothing less than fantastic. I kept looking back and forth from the video to MacFarlane. It was very weird — and also extremely cool.
I was about to watch the Cleveland panel when I got a phone call. It was time for my Robert Cooper interview and I had to leave the convention center and find the hotel where the Stargate Universe cast was. I practically ran with all my stuff and made it there fairly quickly. The rest of the Wormholeriders team was there, too, accept for Rigel, aka SciFiFanGirl616. We would be interviewing Cooper, Ming Na, Robert Carlyle and David Blue. My interview with Cooper was first.
Actually, this was my first ever interview. Was I nervous? No. Not at all. Am I lying right now? Oh heck yeah! I was so nervous. However I was also excited to be the one interviewing Cooper. He is a pillar in the Stargate franchise and someone I personally think is wonderful. He’s had a hand in some of my all-time favorite Stargate episodes and has worked on all three shows. The news that he is taking a step back from Stargate is sad. You can see the interview here: (http://wormholeriders.com/blog/?p=16706)
I thought the interview went fairly well since I didn’t lose consciousness, cry, or run away. And thankfully, neither did Mr. Cooper. I do want to thank Robert Cooper for his time and for allowing me to interview him. Also, thank you Syfy and MGM Studios. It was such an honor.
I was wandering the hotel and happened to run into some of the cast from Warehouse 13. I could not believe my luck! I got to hug Saul Rubinek as well as Eddie McClintock. I also got to talk to Allison Scagliotti. Seriously good times. If you don’t know, I happen to cover Warehouse 13. If you don’t watch the show, why not? It’s a fun show! What are you waiting for?
I had to go back to the convention center because I had press room access for the series “V.” I am a fan of the show and had the pleasure of interviewing both Morris Chestnut (Ryan) and Laura Vandervoort (Lisa). Both lovely and talented actors. It sounds like there are some very cool things in store for us “V” fans in the upcoming season. Why am I getting the feeling that I’m going to have way too many shows to watch in the coming months? Stay tuned to the Wormholeriders site for my interviews with Chestnut and Vandervoort.
After the “V” press room I was free! I had survived Saturday! HORRAY! I was happy but so exhausted. And starving. I think aside from half a yogurt at like five in the morning I’d eaten a cookie. So on the way back to my in-laws condo we got sushi. Delicious, filling sushi. And then I pretty much crashed. I had to get up early yet again for Sunday. I did not want to miss the Smallville and Supernatural panels.
Sunday
I was up bright and early again. Even before the sun. I seemed to be making a painful habit out of it. However it was for a worthy cause. I was excited about the Smallville panel. Good thing I was up early because literally thousands of other Comic Con attendees were excited about the Smallville panel too. I was able to get in line and eventually, after a two hour wait, get a seat inside the room. It wasn’t the first row but I didn’t care. I was in the room!
First I want to congratulate Smallville for holding the title now as the longest running science fiction show. As a steadfast Stargate fan this is a sad moment for me; I’ll be honest. Smallville has now passed up Stargate SG-1. However, I congratulate Smallville. Science fiction shows are starting to finally have the longevity they deserve. However, the tenth and final season of Smallville looks astounding. I think this show is going out with a bang. In a good way. As they said at the panel they are throwing everything including the kitchen sink into the final season. They showed us the sneak peak and I have to say it looks like a very meaty season. Even Clark’s father, Jonathan, will be back. And, the question most Superman fans have been waiting for: Will Kal-El fly? We were told that we know how the comic book turns out. So that’s a yes. Finally we get to see him fly!
Supernatural: My final panel of Comic Con. I’ve been a fan of this show since the pilot. This show seems to be that cat with nine lives. I’m told this is the final season of Supernatural, however I am pretty sure I’ve heard that in past seasons. Still, the upcoming season looks very interesting. What are fans to expect? Weekly monsters returns, the brothers still work on their relationship, Cass may have a Russian accent (ok not really) and no more kissing for Bobby. When asked how Sam will get out of Hell, Jared Padalecki said he wasn’t sure but maybe he gets out with practice. He was alluding to the fact that this isn’t Sam’s first trip to Hell. In fact, Dean and their father have been to Hell. Trips to Hell, and getting out, seem to be a family trait.
When asked if Chuck, the prophet, was actually God, the panel would not give an answer. Apparently the writers want each person to interpret who God is on their own. So for all you fans out there thinking Chuck is really God, well, keep thinking that. It’s your prerogative.
Gag reels can either be hilarious or lame. I had never seen a Supernatural gag reel before and I have to say I have been missing out. We were shown a sneak peak of the gag reel and I literally laughed so hard I cried. Of course, with fantastic premier episode music and a hilarious performance of Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” to rule ALL “Eye of the Tiger” performances, I should have known the gag reel would be epic. Even if you’re not a Supernatural fan you should check it out. I have a feeling it will win you over. Supernatural’s final (as far as we know) season seems to keep that snarkastic sense of humor that gives the show it’s edge over other horror type shows.
Sadly the gag reel and Supernatural panel had to come to an end. I had just one last thing to do before my Comic Con experience was over: interview the Scooby Doo people.
I’ve been a Scooby Doo fan literally my whole life. Not only did I grow up watching the show, I grew up with Great Danes. When we bought our house I turned my oldest daughter’s bedroom, playroom and bathroom into Scooby rooms. I painted the characters on the walls and decorated with whatever Scooby knick-knacks I could find. To say I was excited about interview the people making the newest Scooby incarnation was an understatement. I was thrilled!
I had the pleasure of interviewing Matthew Lillard, the voice of Shaggy, supervising producers Spike Brandt and Tony Cervone, producer Mitch Watson, and art director Dan Krall. My interviews will be up on Wormholeriders soon. I will say that I loved speaking with these people and picking their brain about one of my favorite shows. They certainly have me excited about Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated airing Mondays at 7pm on Cartoon Network. Many of these talented people have worked on classic shows like Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain and Freakazoid! Need I say more.
And with the last of my interviews, my work was done at Comic Con. As I walked away from the convention center I realized, happily, that I had survived! Yay! I also knew I’d need about a week of sleep when I finally made it back home. Unfortunately, I had an early flight back home the next morning. One more painfully early wake up call for me. I could sleep on the plane though. And I did.
Thanks so much for reading about my crazy and exhausting experience at San Diego Comic-Con. Please feel free to leave a comment here or click on my twitter name or image and drop me a line on Twitter. Until the next convention!
Review: Warehouse 13 Season 2 Episode 2: Mild Mannered
by whovian99 on Jul.20, 2010, under Allison Scagliotti, CCH Pounder, Celebrity Series, Eddie McClintock, Jane Espenson, Jewel Staite, NBC Universal, Roger Rees, Sean Maher, Simon Reynolds, Studio Series, SyFy, Tyler Hynes, Warehouse 13
Hey Warehouse 13 Fans!

If you haven’t watched “Mild Mannered” yet you’re in for quite a treat. This episode was written by Benjamin Raab and Deric A. Hughes. You can drop them a line on Twitter by clicking on their Twitter names here @wondermasons and @dblackanese respectively. They also wrote season one’s fan favorite episode “Duped” about Lewis Carroll’s Alice. Special thanks to Syfy!
Have you ever wanted to be a super hero? I know I have. I’m so jealous of both Sheldon (Firefly’s Sean Maher) and Myka (Joanne Kelly) for getting to do just that. The show opens with Myka and Pete (Eddie McClintock) checking in at the local post office to see if their personal effects have finally arrived. Myka’s have. Pete’s haven’t. While Myka is seeing the praises of having her fuzzy slippers and books, Pete looks sad. Meanwhile, Artie (Saul Rubinek) is seeing things. More accurately he is someone: MacPherson (Roger Rees). Artie needs closer over the death of his former friend/enemy. I think he does get it. However I believe this isn’t the last we’ll see of MacPherson.
The agents are sent to Detroit, Michigan to investigate a string of thwarted criminal attempts. Someone has been protecting the good citizens of the motor city by taking matters into their own hands. Myka and Pete are wondering if the artifact allows the person to do all sorts of things ranging from super strength to bullet invulnerability.
Pete and Myka get suspicious when questioning Loretta (Stargate Atlantis’ Jewel Staite), the owner of a pie store and her assistant, Sheldon. They decide to keep watch on the area and don’t need to wait long before another crime is being committed. A masked man dressed in a purple super hero type of suit has the criminal over his head. Before the agents can apprehend the do-gooder, he leaps over a building and disappears from view. Myka wonders if the mask the man is wearing is the artifact.
When Sheldon quotes a super hero from a comic book, the agents peg him as their number one suspect. After questioning him, Sheldon proves the agents’ assumption correct by using the artifact to fly away. Pete is amazed. Myka is concerned. She points out that Sheldon has hand tremors and could be suffering neurological damage from the artifact. The agents need to find Sheldon and get the artifact before he suffers permanent damage or worse.
Back at the pie shop Sheldon visits Loretta to confess his love for her. He confides in her that he has been masquerading as a super hero. Pete and Myka arrive and warn Sheldon about the dangers of the artifact and demand he hands it over. Sheldon refuses and then realizes, too late, that he can no longer control the power of the artifact. Loretta is almost injured by the artifact so Sheldon flies away to keep her safe.
Claudia (Allison Scagliotti) shows up with a couple of things to help take the artifact from Sheldon. One is a type of suit that absorbs all forms of kinetic energy. The other is a pair of gauntlets that channel the absorbed energy from the suit and allow the wearer to re-direct it. After Pete learns the gloves cause impotence in men he steps aside to let Myka save the day. Claudia warns the agents the artifact Sheldon is using is pulling such massive gravitational waves that an entire city block might be flattened.
The team tracks Sheldon down to a closed automotive factory. Pete calls Myka in to deal with the artifact. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t extremely jealous of Myka in this scene. She even puts Trinity from the Matrix to shame. I do wonder how the suit would have looked on Pete though. It seems tailor made for Myka. Seriously, this is the way to rock the super hero look.
Myka lets Sheldon know she’s there to help him and keep everyone safe. She asks Sheldon to take her hand so she can absorb the power. She then uses the gauntlets Claudia made to shoot the energy into the sky. Pete grabs the belt around Sheldon’s waist, assuming that it is the artifact. Unfortunately, he is mistaken. As it turns out, the trunks are the artifact and they are gaining more power.
As Myka absorbs more energy from Sheldon, Pete is able to take the trunks off and bag them. Hooray! The team has worked together and now, as Pete says in his super hero voice, “Once again, the city is safe!” The trunks had belonged to Angelo Siciliano also known as Charles Atlas, the famous body builder.
Back at the warehouse, Pete gets Myka to admit she loved being a super hero. Myka has a surprise for Pete at Leena’s (Genelle Williams) B&B. Because Pete’s stuff has yet to arrive, the team got him a flat screen TV for his room. Myka found the only issue Pete was missing in his favorite childhood comic book colletction.
There is so much to love about this episode if you’re a fan girl like me. Obviously there are plenty of fan boy gems, too. I thoroughly enjoy watching people play super heroes, hearing fantastic one-liners, seeing cool artifacts and finding a slew of super-hero references. For those of you who couldn’t tell by my screen name, I am a massive Dr. Who fan. To hear Claudia yell out, “Allons-y” just as the tenth Doctor always did, made my day! We get to see Pete’s fan boy side. We even get to see a bit of Myka’s feminine side. I think I identified with Pete the most. I often say, “Quick! To the Batmobile!” And “ Oooo! My spidey-senses are tingling.” Not to say that Myka didn’t have some great lines as well. I had to chuckle when she asked Pete, “Don’t super heroes ever use the stairs?”
The episode ends on a sweet note when Myka asks Pete, “So do you think this feels more like home, now?” “Nah,” Pete says, “It’s better.” The two agents have come a long way. I love the relationship that they have. They are a bit like brother and sister and a bit like best friends.
Now I’ll be wanti
ng to dress up as Super Myka for Halloween. Don’t worry. I won’t. I’d need an artifact myself to pull that look off. Until next time!

Review: Warehouse 13 Season 2 Episode One – Time Will Tell
by whovian99 on Jul.13, 2010, under Allison Scagliotti, CCH Pounder, Celebrity Series, Creator Series, Eddie McClintock, Genelle Williams, Jaime Murray, Jane Espenson, Jewel Staite, Joanne Kelly, Roger Rees, Saul Rubinek, Sean Maher, Simon Reynolds, Studio Series, Tyler Hynes, Warehouse 13
Hey Warehouse 13 Fans!
We certainly were left hanging off quite a cliff with the season one finale, “MacPherson.”
Claudia (Allison Scagliotti) realizes her brother’s professor is actually MacPherson (Roger Rees). Leena (Genelle Williams) and Mrs. Frederick (CCH Pounder) find an artifact called the Phoenix has been taken from the warehouse. Claudia is the last person to have accessed the Phoenix. MacPherson had been bronzed but someone released him.
That someone seemed to be Claudia until we see MacPherson remove Harriet Tubman’s thimble and Claudia transforms into Leena. Artie (Saul Rubinek) discovers MacPherson in the warehouse office and fights him. Finally, Myka (Joanne Kelly) and Pete (Eddie McClintock) see Artie get blown up with the tunnel leading out of the warehouse in the premiere of season one cliffhanger of Warehouse 13 on SyFy! Now for my review and analysis of Time Will Tell, the season two premiere! Oh and thanks for all you do SyFy!
After a long wait we find out what happens next. For weeks my mother has been arguing with me that Artie is dead. I told her Artie and the warehouse are like peanut butter and jelly. I started to wonder if maybe my mom was right and the warehouse would be Artie-less. Furthermore, is Claudia bad? Is Leena? For an impatient person like myself it’s great to be able to say the wait is over.
We see Myka and Pete staring at the aftermath of the explosion and then racing to see if they can find Artie. To be honest I realized my mom was probably right — Artie has to be dead. While they search, Leena is wasting no time and de-bronzing some other master-mind criminal. She tells whomever the mystery bad guy is that there isn’t a lot of time. Then, just as Myka finds Artie’s glasses and it seems all is lost, a spark and cloud of smoke of some sort starts to form near them. Artie appears and mumbles to himself that that’s how that works. Thrilled, Pete and Myka run over and hug Artie.
Their joy is short lived when Pete wonders how Artie has survived. And by the way, Mom, I told you! Artie pulls the Phoenix out of his pocket. Apparently MacPherson had set Artie up to be trapped in the exploding tunnel on purpose. He wanted Artie to need the Phoenix. But why? Also, when the Phoenix saves one life it takes another’s in their place. The three leave the warehouse and find Mrs. Frederick’s car is on fire. At first Artie tries to get in the car to save her but Pete and Myka hold him back. Then Myka sees Mrs. Frederick’s body laying several feet away.
Watching from a nearby mountain, MacPherson believes Mrs. Frederick has died. A door opens and Leena walks out with the mystery person wrapped up. MacPherson tells her he’ll contact her with further instructions. Until then, Leena knows what to do. I notice that Leena doesn’t seem as happy this time. Maybe she isn’t the traitor I thought she was.
Artie visits Mrs. Frederick in the hospital. She appears unconscious. He tells her it’s his fault her driver is dead. He grabs her hand and Mrs. Frederick opens her eyes. She tells Artie to find Claudia and her brother, Joshua. She warns that MacPherson is playing the long game. Artie wakes up in a chair next to Mrs. Frederick’s bed. It was a dream of some sort. Or was it? Was Mrs. Frederick actually contacting him? It seems Mrs. Frederick, like Pete, gets vibes.
Back at the warehouse Pete, Myka and Leena are going over the video of Claudia de-bronzing MacPherson. Pete says he doesn’t believe Claudia would do something like that. Myka points out that innocent people don’t run. Claudia did. I’m with Pete on this one. Myka doesn’t realize that scared children run. Even genius 19 year old children.
Leena has a weird flash to where she is looking at a reflection of some sort of Claudia. It then changes to Leena. She loses her balance but then tells Pete and Myka she’s fine. Artie walks and tells the others that Claudia popped up on the grid. She is heading to Switzerland to most likely see her brother, Joshua, at CERN. Pete and Myka want to go with Artie. Artie tells them to stay put and re-trace MacPherson’s steps.
Pete and Myka are using the durational spectrometer in the bronzing sector to see if they can find any more clues. They find out MacPherson wasn’t the only one de-bronzed. Another person was de-bronzed too — H. G. Wells (Jaime Murray). Pete remarks that the warehouse gets more interesting every day. No kidding. I’m wondering if at some point we’ll find out Elvis is in there too.
Claudia gets off the train in Geneva and walks out of the station. She feels someone is following her and ducks into an alley. She surprises the person by knocking them over the head. Artie falls to the ground. He tells Claudia she’s fired. Claudia tells Artie if she had a Farnsworth he could have called her. Artie tells her she should trust him. Double agent or not, he wants to help Claudia out. Here we can see how their relationship is very much a father-daughter one. For even if Claudia were guilty in some way, Artie would still help her. Claudia reminds him of the importance of getting to Joshua before MacPherson does. Artie then remembers when he got Joshua (Tyler Hynes) the job at CERN the director had mentioned Reynolds. He realizes this is what Mrs. Frederick meant by MacPherson playing the long game.
Pete and Leena gather more information on H.G. Wells. They find an article on the H.G. Wells home museum in London. Pete and Myka head to London in order to check it out. Pete asks Myka why she doesn’t have jet lag. Myka has slept on the plane while Pete watched “Marley and Me” several times. He tells Myka it’s so sad. This is seriously the kind of line that might get lost but I find chuckle worthy. Pete and Myka poke around the museum to see what they can find. Pete hears someone trying to get in the front door of the museum. He opens it and sees a woman from the tour. She tells them she forgot her notebook. Pete lets her in to find it.
Mrs. Frederick is having dreams in her hospital bed of Leena and Claudia. Just as it seems she is putting the pieces together her eyes snap open. She’s actually awake this time. And quite possibly, she knows what’s going on with Leena, Claudia and maybe even MacPherson.
In London, Pete is kissing the woman who is looking for her notebook. Typical. It’s not like MacPherson is on the loose. Oh wait, he is. Artie calls on the Farnsworth and Myka answers it in another part of the museum. Myka tells Artie that MacPherson has de-bronzed H.G. Wells. At that moment Pete gets a bad vibe. Myka goes to find Pete and as she’s about to tell him something about Wells she finds Pete with the Tesla being held to him. Pete has just figured out what Myka was going to say: H.G. Wells is a woman. Pete has to add a hot woman.
Wells tells the two agents she brought the Tesla gun to the warehouse. She had been apprenticed at Warehouse 12. Wells met Tesla at a world fair in 1893. She wants to know what Pete and Myka are doing ransacking her home. Myka says that has a distinctive ringtone to it. Pete seems to get what Myka is saying. Myka quietly presses on something in her pants pocket. Soon “C is for Cookie” can be heard. Pete’s ring tone? I had him pegged as more of a Kesha fan. At any rate it distracts Wells enough for Pete to get the upper hand.
After handcuffing Wells to a chair Myka tells her MacPherson will turn on her eventually. Wells says she knows this because all men turn eventually. She calls them Neanderthals. Pete wonders how someone who has been unconscious for so many years can still hold on to anger. Wells tells the agents that being bronzed doesn’t mean the person is unconscious. They are conscious the entire time. Talk about a time out. I’m hoping I never get bronzed. Although I can think of a few people I’d love to have bronzed.
Wells tells Myka and Pete where to find what it was MacPherson was looking for in her house. There is a hidden panel that unlocks a secret door. Behind the door is some sort of weird vest. Myka notices the wiring on the vest matches the wiring in the hidden panel. Wells tricks Myka and Pete into flipping the switch on the panel. They are both thrown up to the ceiling and stuck there. Wells is no able to make her escape, taking the vest with the mystery use with her.
Artie and Claudia make it to CERN just in time to see Joshua walking out with the doctor and a briefcase. Claudia runs up to see her brother when Artie sees the doctor is wearing Harriet Tubman’s thimble. He tells Claudia who sees it and pulls it off. The doctor transforms into MacPherson. He then shoves Joshua off the walkway they’re on and runs away with the briefcase.
Meanwhile, Myka realizes Wells has actually invented cavarite and this is how they got stuck to the ceiling. Myka figures electricity may help them get down. Pete uses the Tesla gun to shoot at the ceiling. Sure enough, the two fall to the floor. They tell Artie about the vest Wells has. Claudia searches the warehouse database and finds it is the imperceptor vest. When wearing it the person is imperceptible to the naked eye. However it needs a massive power source. Also, I’m wondering if it makes your butt look big. Artie figures out that MacPherson and Wells are after something in the Escher Vault. It’s where the possessions of the bronzed people are locked up. Pete points out that Leena must be the breech and she is the only one left to take care of the warehouse.
Back at the B&B Mrs. Frederick surprises Leena. She asks were Leena was at the exact moment of the explosion. Leena can’t remember exactly. Mrs. Frederick looks closely at Leena and her faces changes. The skin around her eyes is sunken and red. Mrs. Frederick says it was as she suspected and begins to strangle Leena. I knew this woman is not to be messed with. But wow, even I think strangling Leena was a bit much. What do you think she does when Mr. Frederick leaves the toilet seat up? Scary thought.
Leena looses consciousness and Mrs. Frederick puts her hand near Leena’s ear. A small silver sphere rolls out. Mrs. Frederick puts it in her pocket. She then uses smelling salts to awaken Leena. Something to take note of, Mrs. Frederick carries absinthe in her purse. If you don’t know, it’s illegal in the United States. I mean, I’m just saying. Mrs. Frederick is full of surprises. MacPherson planted what is known as the Pearl of Wisdom in Leena’s ear, according to Mrs. Frederick. It allowed MacPherson to take control over Leena. Leena was not a willing double agent. And now MacPherson and Wells have made it inside the warehouse. MacPherson unlocks the Escher Vault and Wells goes inside.
Artie and Claudia return to the warehouse. They find out MacPherson has booby-trapped the warehouse. Claudia tells Artie they can climb the rafters to get around the traps and he can lose pounds. Artie calls her a devil child. Artie warns Pete and Myka about the traps when they get to the warehouse. They decide the fastest way to get to the vault is taking the zip line. I’m serious when I say I will try zip lining through the warehouse with Pete any day.
MacPherson is waiting outside the Escher Vault when Wells surprises him. She is about to kiss him but Pete handcuffs MacPherson. MacPherson is confused as Wells takes Harriet Tubman’s thimble off her finger and transforms into Myka. Artie and Claudia arrive with Claudia announcing its “game over.” MacPherson says not yet, Wells is still in the vault.
Wells appears and cuts the necklace off MacPherson then takes off again, leaving him to die. MacPherson tells Artie he knew Artie would use the Phoenix. He wanted Artie to see the darkness and feel the emptiness. Artie says when he used the Phoenix he felt peace and saw light. MacPherson said he thought he knew the truth. His dying words to Artie are that he’s sorry. I actually feel sorry for MacPherson. Just as he realizes he’s wrong about everything he dies.
Back at the B&B, Artie is telling the agents they need to find Wells. So far there has been no trace of her. Artie wants to speak to Claudia about something. He gives her a Farnsworth. Not just ANY Farnsworth, mind you. But Farnsworth’s actual Farnsworth. Seriously cool. I say Claudia has earned it.
Mrs. Frederick takes Artie into the Escher Vault to see what Wells took. She unlocks a cabinet near the vault that contains special goggles. The goggles allow the wearer to see the path clearly so they don’t get lost. They discover Wells took her locket, ring and compact. What they don’t know is why?
In a café somewhere in the world, Wells is looking at her locket. A man asks her what she’s working on. She tells him something she’s been thinking about for a very long time. Hmmmm… I’m sure it’s nothing good. I’m also sure we’ll be seeing Wells again.
All in all this was a great episode. I’m very excited about the rest of season two. I love the interaction between the main characters. Artie and Claudia are hilarious as are Pete and Myka. Mrs. Frederick is just plain scary. I’m not sure how I feel about Leena yet. She wasn’t a true double agent. It seems MacPherson had used h
er just like he used everyone else in his life. However she seems to be almost jealous of Claudia. I’m certainly a Team Claudia person. Hopefully Leena will grow on me. Hey Mom, any bets on who dies but doesn’t stay dead for next week?

Warehouse 13 Season One Overview and Mild Mannered Jewel Staite Sean Maher
by whovian99 on Jul.13, 2010, under Allison Scagliotti, CCH Pounder, Celebrity Series, Eddie McClintock, Genelle Williams, Jane Espenson, Jewel Staite, Roger Rees, Sean Maher, Simon Reynolds, Studio Series, Tricia Helfer, Tyler Hynes, Warehouse 13
You better believe I’ll be tuning in to the ENTIRE season two of Warehouse 13 on SyFy! Speaking of which, standby for my review and analysis of Time Will Tell, the season two premiere. It was a fantastic episode enjoyed by everyone we know. Thanks SyFy!
Thanks to WR_Systems and by courtesy of NBC Universal, I include a few images from tonight’s Warehouse 13 episode “Mild Mannered” with Jewel Staite and Sean Maher which will be reviewed just prior to leaving for Comic-Con next week! I hope to see you there! Now Warehouse 13!
Warehouse 13 Season One
So you like Warehouse 13, do you? Or maybe you’ve never watched the show and are wondering what it’s about. I’m hoping I can help you out whatever your situation may be. I’ve been watching the show since the pilot and am excited about season two. I’m going to take a look back at season one and either refresh your memory or get you up to speed. So, keep your arms and legs inside Thomas Edison’s concept car at all times and, what EVER you do, don’t touch any artifacts!
I’m going into some detail on the first episode, entitled “Pilot,” as it explains much of the who, what, where, when and even the why. Bear with me; as Monk always says, you’ll thank me later. The main characters are United States Secret Service Agents Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly) and Peter Lattimer (Eddie McClintock). As she is quick to point out to Pete, her name is pronounced MIKE-ah, not mick-ah. To say these two are polar opposites is an understatement. Myka is a by-the-book type while Pete goes by his gut and doesn’t seem concerned with rules. Their first assignment together is covering an art exhibit opening in Washington, D.C. The agents are to make sure the guest of honor, the President of the United States, is kept safe.
After a museum employee cuts his finger on an Aztec blood stone, things get a little weird. Myka seems on top of the security however when Pete shows up he tells her he gets vibes and something is really off in museum. Pete doesn’t think things will go according to plan and the president should not be brought in to the party.
Outside the museum a man approaches carrying a large leather bag. Back inside the museum the employee who cut his finger is looking terrible, to say the least. It seems Pete may be right after all. As Pete patrols the museum he comes upon the Aztec blood stone. He notices it’s dripping blood and decides to pick it up and take it out of the party.
Meanwhile the sickly museum employee passes Myka. She finally notices him and decides to follow him. However she’s already given the order to bring the president inside. Just as the president enters the room the employee takes a knife out and moves towards the president. Myka pulls a gun hidden in a holster on her thigh and aims it at the employee ordering him to freeze. He does as told which allows the other secret service agents to move the president to safety.
Pete is jogging through an empty part of the museum with the blood stone and trips, falling to the floor dropping the artifact. It rolls away and a foot stops it. The foot belongs to the mystery man with the large leather bag. The man opens the bag and pulls something out of it and holds it over the blood stone. Pete draws his gun and orders the man to drop it. The man tells Pete he can’t do that and puts on goggles. He places whatever he is holding into the blood stone and a bright yellow flash of light emanates from it.
At the same time the museum employee, now on the floor as Agent Bering has subdued him, screams and then loses consciousness. Pete, trying to regain his sight, looks around but the mysterious man and the blood stone are gone. Pete’s superior, Dickinson (Simon Reynolds), does not believe the story Pete tells him and accuses him of being under the influence. He suspends Pete, with pay, for two weeks. Myka is personally thanked by the president and the first lady.
When Pete returns home to his apartment that night his gut tells him something is off. He pulls his gun and turns to see a woman is standing in his apartment. She tells him her name is Mrs. Frederick (CCH Pounder) and that she’s with the government. As a matter of national security, Pete is to report to coordinates in South Dakota the next day. When Mrs. Frederick’s assistant hands the agent a paper she tells him it’s an invitation to endless wonder. Pete asks her if she could sound a little more creepy.
The next day somewhere in South Dakota, Pete drives his black SUV into a small valley. There is a cow and a very massive yet ancient looking warehouse. Shortly after, a silver sedan pulls into view. Out steps Myka. Neither agent looks happy to see the other. Both are equally confused as to why they were sent to this location. The warehouse door opens, seemingly on its own. As they walk toward the door a beeping noise is heard behind them. They turn around and see a man wearing what I describe as a ridiculous outfit. The man asks how the agents are doing.
Pete pulls his gun on the man and informs Myka that this is the person who took the blood stone at the art exhibit. The man explains that the stone and the warehouse are property of the government; he has stolen nothing. He introduces himself as Arthur Nielsen (Saul Rubinek), claiming he, too, works for Mrs. Frederick. He invites the agents inside saying they can call him Artie and that he made cookies. Artie leads the perplexed agents through the warehouse door. Behind the door is a white metal tunnel which leads to a homey office room. There are oriental rugs on the floor, bookshelves, desks with computers and many artifacts filling the large space. Artie shows the agents to the open door at the other end of the office and steps out onto the balcony. They follow him to discover an almost impossibly large area under one roof. If you weren’t sure before, this is no ordinary warehouse.
Artie shows the agents around part of the warehouse. Officially it is K39ZZZ on the North American grid but he likes to think of it as America’s attic. Artie explains that no one is sure how all the artifacts work. “We take the unexplained and we just safely tuck it away in this super-sized Pandora’s box.” During the tour Artie realizes Pete is holding a kettle. He tells the agent not to think a single thought for the kettle grants wishes. Myka doesn’t believe Artie and grabs the kettle, making a wish. A ferret pops out of the kettle startling both agents. Artie tells Myka he knows she wished for a transfer out of the warehouse. Impossible wishes result in ferrets, he explains. He, too, had wished for a transfer out of the warehouse. He tells the agents that his first year there the warehouse was crawling with ferrets.
Leena’s Bed and Breakfast
Just like the warehouse is by no means an ordinary warehouse, the B&B the agents are told to stay in appears to be no ordinary B&B. Or at least, Leena (Genelle Williams), the woman who runs the it is no ordinary woman. She shows the agents to their rooms. A disgruntled Myka storms off to her room while Leena stares intensely at Pete. Leena informs Pete that he is a very lucky man because he is in tune and that is very rare. Whatever that means. A bewildered Pete watches as Leena walks down the stairs and out of view.
Seever City, Iowa is where Artie sends the agents on their first assignment. They are to find a college who student and determine what artifact has turned him inexplicably violent. Myka thinks it is a waste of time but Pete is taking a liking to the warehouse assignment. While the agents are questioning the student at the police station Pete could sense something was about to happen. He pulls Myka and himself to safety before the college student snaps and knocks the desk over.
In the end the two agents work together quite well to figure out that a hair comb that used to belong to Lucrezia Borgia, a sixteenth century love-jilted Italian woman, is the artifact they are looking for. It’s being worn by the student’s god mother, Lorna Soliday. Before anyone is seriously injured the agents save the day. All is right with the world once again. For the moment.
Back at Leena’s B&B, Dickinson calls Myka to inform her that she can transfer back to Washington, D.C. but she has to give her answer almost immediately. Bering smiles and hangs up the phone.
This is how Myka and Pete begin their new assignment as warehouse agents. And now let the real fun begin. I’m a firm believer in safety first so next up, the rules.
The Rules of the Warehouse
Since the warehouse holds not just valuable but also dangerous artifacts, there are many rules that need to be followed. Listed below are just a few we’ve learned.
One of the first rule of the warehouse deals with static balls. As with so many bizarre artifacts containing all sorts of mysterious power, static gets kicked up and little electrical balls course through the warehouse from time to time. The rule when dealing with a static ball? Duck and cover!
Occasionally an artifact happens to find you. It can’t always be helped as Pete discovered with the wishing kettle. What is to be done when suddenly holding an artifact? Put it in the neutralizing agent. It’s a thick, purple gooey substance that not even Artie can explain.
Don’t eat the purple stuff because Artie says you’ll… see things.
The Farnsworth is a communication device. It’s sort of like a two-way video phone. It was invented in 1929 by Philo Taylor Farnsworth. The rule of the Farnsworth: Always keep your Farnsworth on you.
Tesla’s electric stun gun: One blast and down you go. Also it affects short term memory if you’re shot with it. Remember it needs to recharge after you’ve used it so try to hit the target on the first attempt.
The scent of fudge means something is wrong. Be on alert when you smell fudge or if someone tells you they smell fudge.
Don’t converse with reflected entities. Why? Two words: Bloody Mary.
Watch your negative energy. As Pete and Myka find out in episode 3,“Magnetism”, negative energy makes the warehouse artifacts act up.
Electrical energy can crank up the level of intensity of an artifact. This includes weather like tropical and thunder storms.
Never rule anything out.
Don’t get killed.
Partners
Considering that Myka and Pete are virtual opposites and more of an odd couple than partners, they actually have great chemistry together. Not romantic chemistry, mind you, but more like brother and sister. Case in point: the punching. Myka is, as Belski (Tricia Helfer) in episode 2 put it, wound very tightly. Yet she does not hesitate to hit Pete. I love this about her because it’s something I would do. It makes her more likeable and certainly more real.
Pete may be a lady’s man and come off as goofy and very boyish. However he’s an excellent partner. Even though he does tease Myka he is also there for her. His professionalism is subtle but it’s there if you look for it. Myka is an extremely attractive woman yet Pete treats her as a partner. This forces me to respect him. Also his vibes aren’t the only thing going for him. He notices the details almost as well as Myka. I think these two partners are up there with Mulder and Scully.
Now that you’ve been introduced to the characters and the warehouse I’ll give you a brief rundown of the first season. I’m focusing on those episodes that contributed to the overall story arc.
Episode 3 Magnetism
Artie and Leena try to figure out who or what is hacking into the warehouse computer system. The agents are off to Unionville, Colorado to figure out what caused a few of the townspeople to behave irrationally. A nun climbed a ladder to a building rooftop and jumped off it almost killing herself, a widow smashed her husband’s ashes on a hospital wall then spray painted a profanity and a talented teen violin player smashed his violin into smithereens during a group lesson. During the investigation the dangerous behavior of the first three people escalates.
While Myka is talking to one of the town’s paramedics in hopes of figuring out what is causing seemingly well-mannered people to go crazy, the paramedic tries to grab her chest. After her initial shock Myka realizes this is more uncharacteristic behavior from a seemingly well-mannered paramedic. He reaches for her chest again. This time she takes action. What I love in this scene is that Myka is so nonchalant about it. She realizes some sort of artifact is in play and therefore takes it all in stride. One of my favorite lines is Myka telling the paramedic, “I believe you. I just rather you not do it again, ok?”
Retracing Myka’s steps against Pete’s the agents realize the artifact is at the church. The priest recently inherited a chair belonging to distant relative, James Braid, the father of hypnotherapy. They finally have found the artifact! Myka tells Pete to douse the chair in the purple goo but nothing happens. He sees an ax on the wall and starts breaking the chair with it. Finally the neutralizer works and once again the agents save the day.
Back at the warehouse Artie is still having trouble with the attempted hacker. He realizes the person is probing the electrical grid in an attempt to locate the warehouse. Artie thinks the probes are random and that the person is just poking around. Leena isn’t too sure. She wants Artie to take the situation more seriously. When Artie is alone the hacker attempts to break into the firewall again. Lights flicker and, to Artie’s surprise, the power box displays a message. It seems the hacker isn’t being so random after all.
Episode 4 Claudia
Here we finally meet the mysterious hacker. A sleeping Artie wakes to realize he is handcuffed to the desk. Someone is in the warehouse office with him. It isn’t long before Artie recognizes the person.
Claudia (Allison Scagliotti) is the hacker. She is after Artie because her brother Joshua (Tyler Hynes) has died and Claudia blames Artie. She kidnaps him. The agents arrive at the warehouse and realize Artie is missing. Using the durational spectrometer they see who took Artie. Then they begin to track down Claudia.
Claudia has taken Artie to Joshua’s old lab. She insists Joshua isn’t dead, just trapped. She says mathematician Rhetticus’ theories were right. Artie doesn’t believe her, that is, until Joshua visits them in the lab. Apparently some experiment Joshua had been working on got him trapped. Claudia has tried to recreate the experiment to bring her brother back. She is now sick because of it and needs Artie’s help to save her brother and herself.
Artie calls the agents and tells them he is fine and helping Claudia with the experiment. Mrs. Frederick explains Pete and Myka need to help Artie do the experiment correctly. There are items belonging to Rhetticus in the warehouse that may be helpful. Pete finds a type of puzzle with Latin on it belonging to Rhetticus. It’s the key to doing the experiment correctly. Once the agents are at the lab they give Artie what he needs to save Joshua and Claudia.
Back at Leena’s B&B Mrs. Frederick visits Artie. She tells him Claudia is now a liability because she hacked into the warehouse and knows too much. The episode ends on a creepy note when Mrs. Frederick tells Artie he knows what his options are in dealing with Claudia.
Back at the warehouse Claudia returns from a trip to Vegas. She tells Artie she doesn’t belong in college and that the warehouse gives her a challenge. Artie decides to let her stay and helps Joshua get a job at CERN.
Episode 7 Implosion
Myka and Pete return to Washington, D.C. to collect a samurai sword that will be given to the president. While in the Japanese embassy a thief takes the sword taken after some sort of explosion. Artie joins the agents in D.C. when he realizes that an implosion grenade, found only in the warehouse, was used. Someone has been removing warehouse items. Bering notices a piece of the sword, called the tsuba, is missing. When the sword and tsuba are together the holder becomes invisible. The tsuba is in the custody of the secret service. Pete and Myka try to steal it and get caught. Their former supervisor, Dickinson, tells the agents what he’s learned: Artie has a criminal record.
Artie finds evidence that someone named James MacPherson (Roger Rees) may be involved in the case. He meets a woman named Carol at a bar and questions her about MacPherson. It becomes obvious that Artie, Carol and MacPherson were involved in a love triangle. After Carol leaves, Mrs. Frederick appears at the bar. She tells Artie MacPherson is not involved and pulls Artie off the case.
Never one to listen, Artie is caught breaking into Dickinson’s office stealing the tsuba. Surprisingly he is arrested for committing treason. Artie realizes that his record had been fixed by Mrs. Frederick once before and someone is setting him up.
Mrs. Fredericks bails Artie out. She tells Artie MacPherson is trying to get to the sword and Artie is free to go after him. Artie shows up at the airport hanger where MacPherson is meeting his contact from the Japanese embassy. MacPherson kills the contact and tries to kill Artie by stabbing him with the sword.
The sword gets stuck in Artie just as the agents arrive. MacPherson runs away. At the warehouse Artie tells Mrs. Frederick that MacPherson is up to something. It isn’t the last they will see of him.
Episode 10 Breakdown
Claudia is left to do chores at the warehouse, never a brilliant idea. She is “tightening and lubricating the zip line” when the autovac she fixed goes haywire, knocking her ladder over. Claudia is grabbing the zip line and the falling ladder turns the zip line on, sending Claudia with it over the warehouse.
As a result of Claudia’s little trip, sticky string gets knocked into the neutralizing agent processing center’s gears. The agents and Claudia need to fix it before the warehouse is thrown into chaos. Claudia, Myka and Pete work together to free the gears of sticky string by freezing the mess with a snow globe artifact and all is well.
Mrs. Frederick has Artie meet her at some diner-type restaurant. Artie finds out it is no ordinary restaurant. He is actually on trial by the regents, Mrs. Frederick’s superiors. Regent Benedict Valda, (Mark Sheppard) seems to be in charge. He tells Artie that because of MacPherson the regents wonder if Artie is capable of doing the job correctly. Artie realizes the regents are scared of MacPherson. He tells them to either fire him, kill him or let him do his job. Then he leaves the restaurant. Mrs. Frederick tells Artie he still has his job and is free to hunt down MacPherson.
Episode 11 Nevermore
A notebook is delivered to Bering’s father (Battlestar Galactica’s Michael Hogan) in Colorado City, Colorado. Meanwhile Myka is in Berlin at MacPherson’s apartment. She can’t find him. Pete is in Montreal and spots MacPherson. He chases him into an alley. MacPherson uses cymbals that create some sort of massive sound and disable Pete so MacPherson gets away.
As Myka’s father is reading the notebook words start coming off the page and onto his skin. He cries out in pain. Later Myka’s mother (Susan Hogan) calls her to inform her that her father is not well and she needs to come home immediately.
In Portland, Oregon at the Kingford Academy a student named Bobby is being bullied by some boys before English class. In class he hears a voice whispering from a display case. An artifact, an ink pen, is calling to the boy. Bobby ends up breaking into the display case and taking the ink pen. Now he and Myka’s father are connected.
Myka and Pete are at her parents’ house when Myka’s father gets worse. Artie sends Claudia with purple goo to take care of the artifact. But when they drop it in nothing happens. Artie figures out they are dealing with a bifurcated artifact. The other piece is a pen. The notebook belonged to Edgar Allan Poe. It isn’t long before the team discovers an ink pen at academy in Oregon.
Pete and Claudia get the ink pen while Myka stays with her father. Pete arrives with the ink pen. After putting the two objects together Myka’s father is better again. As they are leaving Pete gets a vibe that something is wrong with Myka’s father. They run back into the home to find MacPherson there. He is holding Jack the Ripper’s lantern on her parents. Myka gives MacPherson the ink pen and notebook in exchange for her parents’ lives.
Episode 12 MacPherson
Fifteen years ago MacPherson used the Phoenix to save his wife, Carol. Artie tried to stop him but failed. MacPherson was given five consecutive life sentences but two years into his prison term there was an explosion and twelve people were killed. Obviously MacPherson got away.
After questioning Carol, Artie and the agents are lead to a warehouse. Once there Myka finds a wooden box with the Was scepter engraved on it. Artie takes the box and realizes that Carol’s pendant is a key that opens the box. Inside are a pair of glasses. Artie puts the glasses on and sees hologram of an artifact known as the Phoenix. MacPherson has it up for auction.
At the warehouse Claudia pulls up a picture of MacPherson and looks shocked. The man was Joshua’s physics professor, Reynolds. Reynolds gave Claudia help in getting around the warehouse firewall. Leena later wonders to Mrs. Frederick if MacPherson could still be using Claudia. The two check on the Phoenix and find it is no longer in the warehouse. The video display shows Claudia was the last to access the Phoenix.
Artie and the agents arrive at the meeting place for the Phoenix auction. Artie splits from them to find MacPherson. The agents find the group of men that MacPherson has called to the auction. While they are watching from a hidden location, Artie walks in to toward the group and thanks them all for coming.
As Pete and Myka try to figure out what’s going on another Artie walks up behind them. He tells them MacPherson is using Harriet Tubman’s thimble which allows the wearer to look like another person. The agents surround the imposter Artie, handcuffing him. When the thimble is removed from imposter Artie’s finger he transforms into MacPherson’s body guard. MacPherson then brings Artie in on a leash. In Artie’s mouth is an eggshell bomb.
Using a shard of an artifact known as the goblet of Severin, Pete catches MacPherson off guard. The agents take him into custody. Once at the warehouse they bronze MacPherson. It’s what they do with all the people who would otherwise become Hitlers or Mussolinis.
While Myka and Pete are putting artifacts away someone undoes the bronzing process on MacPherson. Mrs. Frederick, who is being driven away from the warehouse tells her driver to turn around. The person who freed MacPherson is finally revealed: It’s Claudia. She takes MacPherson to the office and removes Harriet Tubman’s thimble from her finger. She transforms into Leena.
Artie finds MacPherson in the office activating codes on the computer. The two fight and Artie is knocked to the ground while MacPherson escapes. Artie chases after him into the white tunnel. MacPherson, who has reached the outside of the warehouse, locks Artie in the tunnel and initiates the self-destruct sequence. It blows up the entire tunnel with Artie in it.
Outside the warehouse a very happy MacPherson walks away. Pete and Myka open the door to the tunnel and see it has been completely destroyed.
This is what I call a cliff-hanger. Artie is one of my favorite characters. I cannot imagine the warehouse without him. Leena appears to be in league with MacPherson and Claudia is taking the rap for it.
