V Series Season One Finale Episode: “Red Sky”
by Vala.the.Great on Jun.18, 2010, under ABC Studios, Celebrity Series, Charles Mesure, Christopher Shyer, David Richmond-Peck, Elizabeth Mitchell, Gregg Hurwitz, Herb Sommerfeld, Jace Hall, Joel Gretsch, Laura VanDervoort, Lexa Doig, Logan Huffman, Mark Hildreth, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, Scott Peters, Scott Wolf, Studio Series, V The New Series, Warner Brothers
Hello V series Fans;

Before I start, I want to send ‘our’ congratulations to David Richmond-Peck for his Leo Award ‘win’ for the short Film “Instant”. We are really pleased for you, and Kelly-Ruth Mercier who also won a Leo Award for Best Screenwriter. Congratulations to you both from me, Munchkin and everyone at WormholeRiders! (Click David’s photograph below to visit him on Twitter).
Wow, what a season! Every episode has been amazing, with the promised reveals each week, the fast paced action, the interaction between all the characters. The amazing cast and crew have worked wonders with my favourite show. I can not ‘wait’ for season two! UK Viewers, this episode airs Tuesday June 22, 2010. If you have seen this episode, please do not read read this review. Thank you.
Now I’m back again with my review of the finale episode of Season one, “Red Sky“.
But first:
Previously on V series: Twenty-nine Space ships appear over every major city in the world, London, Los Angeles, Rio and New York to name but a few, (New York being where this incarnation of V is based in).
A holographic transmission of a beautiful Human-looking woman (Morena Baccarin) appears under the ship. She claims to be the leader of her ‘people’ and that they are here to help Mankind in exchange for water and other minerals. “We are of Peace always”…
Special Agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) soon discovers there is more sinister things going on, when she, on the trail of a Sleeper Cell, gate crashes a ‘meeting’ headed by Georgie (David Richmond-Peck). Georgie tells everyone that ‘they’ are really Lizards with cloned Human skin, here hell bent on the destruction of mankind. Though he does not seem to know their ultimate plans.
Ryan (Morris Chestnut -A Visitor who is a Fifth Columnist- Good visitors) gets his human fiancé pregnant. So she is now carrying a human-hybrid baby, the gestation of this pregnancy is moving very fast. And lets just say Anna is not happy when she finds out. She calls it a mongrel! Ouch! Anna sends a soldier out to find them, but he fails!
The Dastardly Marcus (Christopher Shyer) frames Kyle Hobbes (Charles Mesure) for the destruction of the Lyndhurst company warehouse. Lisa (Laura Vandervoort) and Tyler (Logan Huffman) sneak off in a Visitor shuttle, and consummate their relationship… She fails the emotion test that Anna had every Visitor take, and Joshua (Mark Hildreth) covers it up.
Georgie sacrifices himself to save Ryan.
Munchkin’s picture of Anna (And Full-Lizard Anna)
Lisa breaks up with Tyler as she find out that Anna has plans for Tyler that she is not happy about…
She tells Anna she failed, so Anna decides that there is only one way to get Tyler back… A man likes nothing more then a damsel in distress… She brutally smacks her and orders her legs broken (By none other then Herbert Somerfeld)
Anna played on this ‘attack’ on her daughter by Fifth Columnists. She had Kyle Hobbs and none other then Paul McGillion (Carson Becket from Stargate Atlantis) framed for the attack.
And now on with RED SKY:
This episode was directed by: Robert Duncan McNeill Who was Lieutenant Paris in Star Trek Voyager, and was also in The He Man live action movie Masters of the Universe as Kevin.
We start Red Sky, in a wooded area, one of Anna’s soldiers is devouring a Dear.
‘Hungry Soldier’
The effects here are, as always outstanding! Those fangs are quite terrifying. And as he hears something near by, (What I presume is Val’s heart beat) the teeth retract with some pretty nifty sound effects. We see a close up of his “V” eyes. Wow, got to give it to the Visual effect staff on V, wonderful work. Nothing but respect from me and the WormholeRiders team!
‘Soldier showing his “V” Eyes’
Doctor Leah Pearlman is with Val, she is in labour (As we knew from Fruition when Ryan received the text message that Val’s waters had broken). Leah is reassuring Val that everything is going to be fine, when in bursts Anna’s minion. He knocks Leah for six and grabs Val, and dashes out… Leah is rendered unconscious. On a personal note: I really hope that we get to see a lot more of Lexa Doig in season two of V, I really like her character and the Fifth Column REALLY need a Doctor right!
‘Val and Doctor Leah‘
Evans Residence: During breakfast, Tyler announces that Anna had invited them for dinner, (No, not FOR dinner, as Anna’s food…
To eat with her, and Lisa). Tyler is shocked when Erica agrees. But I see a look in Erica’s eyes that says that she has a plan forming in her mind…
‘Erica hugs Tyler, but she has a plan!’
Once Tyler leaves she immediately calls Jack to round everyone up, “I have a plan” She says.
Erica arrives at St Josephine’s Church only to find that Ryan is missing. Jack and The Hobbenator do not know where he is. Erica tells them that Tyler intends to join the live aboard program, and though she can not stop him, she can stop Anna. She states that Ryan had told them that Anna’s ‘eggs’ are about to hatch, and if they can not stop that from happening it is all over. Nine Hundred and ninety-nine V soldiers spell certain doom for this small band of resistance fighters.
So Erica proposes that she goes up in the pretence of ’Dinner’ with Anna and Lisa, and with Joshua’s help. Destroys the eggs. They contact Joshua, he does not seem optimistic. He says that there only two ways into the incubation chamber, one is in Anna’s private quarters, the other is guarded. Joshua can not even gain access any longer. Erica tells Joshua that she can.
Anna invited her and Tyler to dinner at seven that evening. Jack tells her it is too dangerous, but Hobbes talks over him and tells Joshua that he needs to create a diversion so Anna is called out of her quarters so Erica can blow up the eggs. Joshua says that they will need an explosive to destroy the eggs, Joshua had to go, he said “Contact me when everything is set up. We need to know you’ll be here if we’re gonna risk everything on our end” Joshua seemed distant and worried during the conversation.
‘Fade: Joshua, Erica and Hobbes’
Samuel rushes to Joshua, he has news that Marcus has sent guards through the ship, they are searching everyone, and Joshua needs to get rid of the Comms devise. They both know if it is found on Joshua they will be in all kinds of trouble. (Samuel is played by the very talented Lucas Wolf)
‘Samuel and Joshua need to hide the Comms devise’
Erica and the others got to Ryan’s apartment, Erica asks why he did not answer their calls. It is because he needed his line to be free, his baby is on the way.
Erica: “What????” Ryan has been waiting for Doctor Pearlman to contact him but he as heard nothing.
‘The Resistance with a deflated Ryan’
Jack tells Ryan the plan to scramble Anna’s Soldier eggs. Ryan jumps up, he wants to go with her. Erica wont let him in case Val and the Baby need him, and Hobbes tells him that Joshua is creating a diversion, so that Erica can destroy the eggs. Erica needs Ryan to give her as much information about the Mothership as possible.
Ryan makes the valid point that Erica could not complete the plan with Anna’s ‘watchdog’ Marcus on the ship. The ‘Hobbenator’ then says he has a plan to get Marcus off the ship, with him being top of their most wanted list, he can cause a ruckus and get his attention!
‘The Hobbenator’
Marcus approaches Anna in her ‘hatchery’ to inform her that their Armada had arrived ahead of schedule, they are apparently within striking range of Earth.
‘Anna with Marcus in the incubator chamber’
Anna orders him to “Keep them cloaked” and out of sight until the next phase of their plans…. Very sinister, like that evil smile that plays across Anna’s lips whenever she is scheming. Marcus also confirms that Erica will be joining her for dinner, as she has planned.
“With Agent Evans as my ally, and my new born Army, the Humans wont know what hit them” Anna smirks.
‘Overconfident Anna’
Meanwhile back at resistance head quarters (Also known as: The basement of the Church) The Hobbenator (Kyle Hobbes) tells Jack and Erica that the Comms devise is not working. Jack flips out, ‘You’re not going…’ Well Erica put him straight, yes she is. They cannot let this opportunity to destroy Anna’s eggs slip them by.
Hobbes jokes that they could always try sky writing. I really love his dry British sense of humor.
Jack suggests that he go to Chad Decker, The Hobbenator is not impressed “Anna’s lap dog? I prefer my sky writing idea” I am with Hobbes here totally. Decker can not be trusted, which is a bit of a disappointment really. I wanted him to be the resistance’s big spy, so that the ‘reporter character’ would be different from the original. Christine Walsh from the original was fantastic, but she turned to the good side too late and got killed off, I do not want that for Chad Decker. I really do not want him killed off! He should join the resistance, and get info from Anna and slip her tidbits of not-quite-the-truth information.
Erica is also not at all impressed with the idea of going to Decker. As she points out, Chad is the one that tipped Anna off about the shuttle, and went on air to beg people to keep the Visitors here. This is not a good idea.
Jack says that he by no means trusts Decker, so he suggests that they write a message that Decker or Anna would not understand, so even if he goes to Anna it will mean nothing to her.
‘Jack writes a meaningless note, Joshua will understand it,
but if Chad gives it to Anna she will be confuZZled’
Leah Pearlman (Lexia Doig) contacts Ryan and tells him that ‘they’ have Val. He heads to the Peace Ambassador center. He is not a happy bunny at all. He makes a scene. “Anna has my baby, tell her Ryan Nichols is here” He is fought down by several Security Visitors.
‘Ryan makes a scene at the Peace Ambassador Head Quarters’
Anna on the Mothership with Marcus, order that Ryan is brought up to the ship. Marcus questions her.
“He’s dangerous, why don’t we destroy him like any other traitor?”
“He was able to resist my Bliss he fell in love with a Human and turned Fifth Column. You don’t understand what we have in him… insight into our enemy, the very thing that fuels humans: Love. That’s exactly why we have to study him. Up close. If we can turn him back to us, we can turn anyone” Anna explains
‘Anna explains a few things to Marcus’
Chad Decker comes to Jack right away, stating that his call sounded urgent. Jack tells him that he has a note from one of his parishioners, which needed to be delivered to the Mothership. He tells Chad that if he agrees to help, he is to leave it in the medical bay.
‘Chad Decker takes the bait’
Chad asks if there are Visitors in the Fifth Column; yes Chad! Now it is my personal opinion that during Chad’s ‘surgery’ there was some degree of Memory Modification. Unless of course I saw things wrong and Decker is completely shallow and will do anything to better his career.
Chad goes all high and mighty, ‘the Fifth Column shot down a shuttle full of innocent human beings. All I have seen is the Fifth Column hurt people’. Jack tries to tell him that Anna set them up. The Fifth Column did not do that; she is trying to make them out as terrorists.
Up on the Mothership, Joshua approaches Lisa, and tells her it is time to pay back the favor she owes him.
‘Lisa and Joshua’
He explains that at seven that evening they are going to create a diversion so that Anna’s eggs can be destroyed before they hatch. She looks a little bit shocked to say the least. Joshua explains that these Soldiers have been bred to kill humans.
“Here Take this”
‘Joshua hands Lisa A Blue Energy Grenade’
Lisa is hesitant. “Joshua; you’re asking me to betray my Mother? Kill my own kind? I’m sorry but I cant” She states. Joshua tells her that Anna has a plan for Tyler, and the other Humans. “It’s time for you decide who’s side you are really on” He tells her.
‘Joshua and Lisa’
‘Ryan arrives on the Mothership via Shuttle’
Ryan is brought before Anna, demanding to see Val. Anna tells his she is there and safe, but the pregnancy is risky. He should have brought Val to her before.
Ryan is having none of it, accuses Anna of only wanting to run test on her, “Like a lab Rat” He spits.
How do you think Anna’s replies? “You can fight us, or help us fight to save her life”
We find Val on the Mothership, in a medical bay.
Ryan is permitted to visit her, he is taken by two security V’s. He rushes to her, and tries to calm her. She is obviously distraught right now. She was taken by force by a Visitor Soldier, and she is about to give birth to a Human-Lizard Hybrid. I think I would be every-so slightly stressed in her position.
She wants to get off the Mothership, but Ryan tells her they do not really have a choice; the pregnancy is apparently too dangerous. According to Anna anyway.
Val emotionally apologizes for leaving and confesses her Love. Ryan tells her that everything will be ok, and not to worry.
But Ryan is made to leave as Val screams out in agony, the baby is coming. Val tells him its ok, he can go. She wants them to save the baby. It seemed to me at that point she was sure she was not going to survive this.
Erica is with Hobbes and Jack, getting ready to go up for Dinner with Anna and Lisa.
“If you ask me we need to send you up to that UFO more often” Hobbes teases her in regard to her attire.
He shows them the explosive that he is working on to ‘scramble’ Anna’s eggs. Now. I was wondering… do I need to worry that my humor is the same as Hobbes?
Hobbes:
“This is a next-gen Gel explosive…
Even Alien technology won’t pick this bubby up!”
Jack asks Hobbes what he is doing with the ‘hand bag’, so Hobbes shows him, he hides the explosive in the lining.
“And it’s a Clutch not a hand bag” Hobbes says with a smile.

Hobbes puts the initiation chip into the back of Erica’s Mobile (Cell) phone. “Just a simple case of set the timer them Boom!” He tells her.
He also tells the others that Marcus will be off the ship by 19.00 hours, Jack asks how he will manage to get Anna’s second in command off the ship.
“I’ll just grab a Gecko by the Peace Ambassador centre, have him send a message to set up a meeting with Marcus and then I’ll ambush their ambush!” He explains. I have to say I did giggle just a little when Hobbes referred to a Visitor as a Gecko.
‘The New York Mothership’
Chad Decker takes the letter Jack gave him directly to Anna, as they expected.
Anna asks where he got the letter, he said from the same person that gave the information about the shuttle.
Chad tells her that he was to leave the note in the medical lab, and want to know if that means there are infact Visitors working for the Fifth Column.
No of course not… Anna replies “…My people are loyal and of peace…” And then tries to tell Chad that the Fifth Column have infiltrated the Live aboard program.
She then tells him to deliver the note as instructed. He says that he does not want to see anyone else getting hurt. She grips his hand and says. “Don’t worry Chad, as soon we stop the Fifth Column nobody else will”
‘Anna uses her Womanly charms on Decker’
Hobbes arrives in an under-cover car park to meet with Marcus. Again, I really, really want to know when Marcus learnt to drive! ![]()
Marcus hands The Hobbenator a case, which I would imagine is full of money. And says: “We have a lot to talk about”
Marcus: “Put the gun down Mr Hobbes”
Hobbes hands over half of Parker’s research to Marcus. Hobbes is not a silly individual so kept half of the research in a ‘safe place’. Hobbes states that if he want the other half, Marcus has to answer his questions starting with: Why did they set him up?
Marcus: “Because I’d like to hire you”
Hobbes asks, in his own unique way. How Marcus thinks that he would ever work for him? Marcus then gives him some photographs and explains that The Hobbenator has in fact been working fort him for many years! (Is it just me or does the bloke in the picture below with Hobbes look a lot like Dale Maddox?)
‘The Hobbenator has been working for Marcus for years…’
Meanwhile Erica and Tyler are about to head up to the New York Mothership for Dinner with the Queen Lizard and her daughter Lisa.
Upon arrival Erica is told that she has to hand over her weapon and her personal items, as they are not aloud within Anna’s private quarters. She reluctantly hands her gun over, but wants to obviously take her purse. But she has to agree to only take her Mobile phone. (Dang! There goes that plan!)
‘Erica Fake smiles: “Hello Anna” (Erica Private thoughts: I’m so gonna scramble your eggs, and you have no idea… With or with-out my purse)’
Anna sends Erica, Tyler and Lisa into her Quarters, as she has something ‘sinister’ to deal with, I say sinister, because of that Smirk that was playing across her lips.
Decker enters the Medical bay, he approaches Joshua, and tries to hand him the note from Jack. He indicates that the note is from friends on the ground. Joshua assures him he has no friends on the ground. And refuses the note. Lele and me think he looks a wee bit worried, perhaps fearing his hide, because as we all know Anna skins traitors.
‘Joshua *swoon* Cute smile!’
Back in the car park, Hobbes with Marcus; Hobbes asked ‘why?’ Marcus informs The Hobbenator: “You are a man who has a history of selling his loyalty to the highest bidder we want to continue to attain your services” To do ‘what’ exactly I hear you cry… “To infiltrate the terrorist group known as the Fifth Column”
‘Hobbes and Marcus’
Hobbes is initially shocked I believe, and inside must be thinking, well, I am already involved with the Fifth Column thanks. But instead says: “What if I say no?” Marcus insists that he wont. Well Hobbes smiles, and states the Facts: He has Parkers research so holds the trump card here. And if things are not played his way he will disappear and the Visitors will not find him.
Marcus says in a matter of fact tone: “Well we might not be able to find you. But we’ve found her” Marcus hands him a photograph.
Now, this is either, a lover, a child or a… Dog. (Laughs we’re inclined to think that it is his Dog! Of course I am only joking)
‘Marcus: Now, lets talk about the Fifth Column shall we?’
Visitor security had been dispatched to the Medical Lab, as Samuel is just finishing the message. One of the Security agents orders that everyone that the message was sent to are to be found, and rounded up. Anna would deal with Joshua personally. Decker has set them up, as he is outside as the security team approach.
‘Samuel gives Decker evils as he is taken to detainment’
Decker enters the Medical lab and confronts the detained Joshua, stating that the note was indeed for him. Joshua is very angry that Decker set them up, and tells him that thanks to him they will all be captured and skinned alive.
Joshua tells Decker that the Fifth Column is trying to save humanity. Decker does not believe him and indicates that Anna would never skin anyone.
Joshua enlightens Decker that Anna did not cure him from an Aneurysm, but actually gave him one. Then instructs Decker to go to the place where they take the live aboard humans. That will answer all of his questions. I must admit I did not expect to hear that Anna had given Chad an aneurysm, and I am still inclined to think she messed with his thinking, maybe only slightly.
‘Now up on the Mothership, Val is giving birth to the Hybrid child of her and Ryan’
The baby is born naturally, and is heard crying, but it sounds strange, with a slight reverberation. And judging by Val’s reaction upon seeing said child, I would imagine that it look more like Daddy.
Anna enters, she is shown the youngster, and she is told that both Mother and child are well. She says: “I’m pleased the baby survived, the Mother. However did not!” Ohh Anna you are so evil!
Anna proceeds to go to Val, and inject her with some kind of quick acting drug that causes death. Val’s last gasping breath sighs “Ryan”. Awee! Poor Ryan!
Quote from Munchkin: Anna is a very mean Lizard indeed.
‘Anna kills Val’
Anna now with Erica, Tyler and Lisa; She is discussing the trials of being single Mothers. She compliments Erica on her abilities to be a mother and head of the task force at the FBI.
And while we are on the subject of The Anti-fifth Column Task force (This is our nick name for the newly set up Joint Task-force, formally know as: Visitor Threat Assessment Joint Task-force) Me and my best friend Lele had joked back in episode two that we thought it might be funny if Erica was put in charge of such a task force, and now it is true. I simply love it!
Anna is trying to put Erica’s mind at ease about Tyler’s safety whilst joining the live aboard program. Anna of course does not know that Erica ‘knows’ what she really is and will never believe a words Anna spouts. Erica asks her if she believes it can be safe with the fifth column threat.
Anna replies: “Between the two of us I’m sure we’ll make certain it’s safe”
Erica at that point receives her covenant call from (I assume) Jack, she tells Anna it is work, and asks to be excused.
Once out of the room Erica looks for her purse. Lisa approaches her, and tells her that she knows why she is here. And when she points her in the general direction, Erica looks slightly shocked, but I also see relief in her eyes, that now she knows Tyler is safe. Knowing that Lisa is fifth Column would bring hope to Erica and the cause in my opinion.
Lisa gives Erica the Blue Energy grenade that Joshua gave her earlier, instructs her how to use it, and that she needs to place it in the centre of the pool to freeze all the eggs she then should get out as fast as she can. Ah well so much for scrambled Lizard eggs
Erica said that there was supposed to been a diversion. She wondered what happened.
Lisa confesses she does not know. As Erica is about to leave to ‘freeze the eggs’ Lisa stops her, tells her to go back, she would be gone too long and that alone would cause Anna to suspect Erica being involved, which obviously would not be a good thing. Lisa insists that she will figure something out.
Erica says: “Good Luck” Before heading back to Anna.
Lisa finds Joshua in his medical bay, detained. She asks him what happened, Joshua tells her that Chad Decker set them up.
Lisa confesses to Joshua that he was right, and after their conversation she had to decide what side she was on, and her giving Erica the blue energy grenade proves that she is now Fifth Column.
Joshua instructs her how to deactivate the force field; the code is ‘John May Lives’. Joshua is to wait fifteen minuets before he causes the diversion so that Lisa will not be suspected.
Lisa tenderly caresses Joshua’s chin and says: “You are very Brave Joshua” He replies “Thank you my Queen” This is a very touching scene, it tugged on all the emotions, beautifully played by Laura Vandervoort and Mark Hildreth. Joshua is a wonderful character and Lisa, could make the Visitors a wonderful people if/when she comes into power.
Lisa: “You are very Brave Joshua”
Munchkin’s drawing of Lisa and Joshua’s tender moment.
Now it is my ‘personal’ hope that what we did not see is Joshua; at the very least break Samuel out of his cell, and sent him on his way to Earth, so that he can join forces with Erica and the other Human resistance members, they really need another Doctor for one thing, and I think that Lucas Wolf’s Character Samuel has great potential to be so much more in the show. I know that there are many others that share my thoughts and would love to see more of Samuel in season two!
We now find Chad entering the ‘corridor with the red lights…’ where the live aboard Humans are taken. We hear distant ‘female’ screams of terror. The woman is seen in a terrible contraption, with hundreds of needles being inserted all over her body. No wonder she is screaming! (I would much rather get a Tattoo thank you very much!) I think this will be the turning point for Chad. This is not what he expected. He will now understand that Joshua was right.
Now I have had many People ask me how Chad was able to go around undetected, how did Anna not find out? Why was there no CCTV? Well my simple explanation is that Anna is far too over confident, and thinks she does not need the security, and It is also my opinion that there is no CCTV in that particular room (As with the Incubation Chamber also) as Anna would not want this kind of footage to some how be leaked by the Fifth Column to the Humans. That would be disastrous, do you not think? (For Anna). Unless she says that it is the V version of acupuncture, but somehow I think it would not wash!
Decker finds out the truth about the Live Aboards.
The dinner is interrupted by V security telling Anna that they need to move her somewhere secure as there is a Fifth Column attack. I noted that the Security agent called her ‘High Commander’ in front of Erica, and also that it seems that not just anyone can address her as ‘Anna’.
Anna’s first instruction is: “Tell Marcus to return to the ship immediately”
Erica offers to help, but insists that she would need her gun. Anna: “It’s ok, she’s an ally” Ohh Anna how wrong can you be!
Anna it taken to (What I am sure is her) conference room, and it is securely locked down, even the windows are covered in, with what looks like armour plates. And I must say she looked a wee bit stressed.
Erica, with her reinstated gun, finds the incubation chamber, she enters cautiously, and looks sickened. The sound effects of the Eggs squirming make it perfectly clear why she was disgusted. The sight of the Nine hundred and ninety-nine eggs is obviously a bit of a shock to the system. She slowly walks to the centre of the pool as instructed by Lisa, she activates the grenade and just as it seems that one of the eggs are about to hatch Erica throws the grenade amongst the eggs, and runs out of there as fast as she can. Now I must say, I give SO much Credit to Erica/Elizabeth for running full pelt in heals. If I were to attempt such a thing I would break my neck in the effort!
Erica: “Here’s to your children’s future Anna”
Munchkin: (Re Erica) “What a brave hero”
We now find that the Fifth Column attack is Joshua, she is firing a Lazer weapon (Yes I finally got my V series wish) killing many Security Visitors as he goes.
Erica approaches from a distance, seeing the turmoil and trying to avoid the Lazer fire. She tells Joshua that the mission is complete the eggs have been neutralized, and asks how she is going to get him out of there.
Joshua said there is no way, he is dead any way, and She needs to be the one to kill him. (This would give her more leverage with Anna of course, but this is not something that Erica would want to do, and that is clear from the look on her face).
A devastated Erica kills Joshua.
Anna commends Erica for shooting the ‘terrorist’ telling her that she saved many lives. Then to Erica’s shock Anna tries to pin this on the Humans. Anna asked if Erica saw the shooter, Erica says she only saw that he was wearing a Visitor uniform, in response Anna said: “He wasn’t a V, he was Human. My security team reported that a Human infiltrated the ship and stole a V uniform, they are still gathering details” Erica of course offers her assistance.
Anna spots Chad and excuses herself to talk with him. He looks uncomfortable when Anna spotted him. She thanks him for delivering the message. And tells him she is in the hope that it will help to expose more fifth column.
Chad, now a bit more clued up, continues what she expects of him, he gives her what she wants. “We’d hate to see them drive you away”
Anna: “They won’t. And thank you for your loyalty; you’ve trusted us with your career and your health. With-out us you’d lose everything” Now, if that is not a threat I do not know what is. Chad leaves with a nod. Of course and once Anna tells the world that a human infiltrated the ship and killed her people, Chad will know that is far from the truth.
Erica thanks Anna for an eventful evening. (Insert very big grin here).
Anna says: “I hope we can do it again sometime” Erica replies: “Oh you can count on it!”
Erica and Tyler then leave via shuttle.
Anna looks on: appearing very sinister.
Ryan is with his dead fiancé. You can see he is mortified. Anna approaches, he accuses her of killing Val, and for just a moment Anna has a look of (almost) fear, he flies for her throat.
Anna very easily halts the attack; she tells him that he was right she would have had use for Val, so why would she have killed her? (Ohh… scheming, lying Anna). She lies telling Ryan that they did everything possible to keep Val alive, but the pregnancy was too dangerous. “If you’d come to me earlier we could have used our technology to save her life, This is what I was trying to protect you from, Human emotion. I’m so sorry you lost her but now, now you have me” She says. (Does that not send a shudder down your spine? She is so manipulative; again Morena does such an amazing job being Anna).
Anna: “And now you have me”
Erica is now at the Church when Hobbes comes and sits beside her. They congratulate each other on getting back alive. Erica confesses that she was not sure that he could get Marcus away. Of course Hobbes does not tell her the truth.
Jack starts his speech to his parishioners. “There’s a story in the Bible about a Man that loses his way, only to find it again. I’m here to tell you today that I am that man. I was lost, but now, now I am found. I lost the courage to tell you the truth that you need to chose who you are going to follow, the V’s or God; because you can’t serve two masters…”
I would like to say that I love the mood set by the Music in these last sequences, it almost had a Twilight feel which is a great thing, I love the music in the Twilight films!
Jack: “…I know some of you are confused, but we must stand for what we believe. We must reaffirm our devotion to God and renounce the V’s as false profits. Even a single Judas in out mists can defeat us…”
Father Travis is NOT pleased, and People get up and leave.
Jack: “…There is war upon us. A war for our soles,…”
Anna seizes the opportunity to pounce on Ryan during his venerable state; he is morning the loss of the love of his life. Anna takes Ryan’s face in her hands and gives him a concentrated dose of Bliss
“You are never alone. You will never ‘be’ alone. No pain, no heart ache, no human emotion. Just Peace, my peace”
Back to Jack’s speech…
“…With Love, hope and Faith we can overcome anything. Who among you will join me?”
Only a few remain Erica and Hobbes stand, the others that have remained behind do the same, the resistance looks to be growing.
Jack: “Let ‘V’ no longer stand for ‘Visitor’ let ‘V’ stand for Victory”
Travis approaches Jack and tells him that he had instructed Jack not to preech that message in his church.
Jack: “I’ll speak my heart; if you don’t let me do it here I’ll do it somewhere else”
Jack leaves with the others but spies Chad Decker on the way out. They share a significant nod. Again at I stress that I am sure that Father Travis is a Visitor.
After Anna is done inflicting Ryan with concentrated Bliss, she brings the Baby into him. Again the Child is heard cooing with a slight reverberation to its voice. As he looks on, the child’s tail appears from within the folds of the blanket and wraps around Ryan’s thumb. Awe.
But I must say, seeing Anna cradling the baby just seemed…sinister. No doubt she will have some evil plans plotting in her head concerning that Child.
“Welcome home” Anna says to Ryan
‘Anna discovers her Eggs have been destroyed’
Marcus approaches Anna in the incubation chamber, and talks in a comforting tone, tells her that he just found out, and that they believe that it was Joshua.
Anna points out that everything was locked down, Joshua cannot have acted alone, and Marcus is to find out who else is responsible at whatever cost.
Anna: “Are they all dead?”
Marcus tells her that only twelve solders survived, but even then, their ‘core temperatures’ were affected., and they are not sure how many will survive.
With this Anna screams, like her heart had been ripped out.
Anna is losing it, she is crying, sobbing. Marcus does not know where to look, even Lisa looks uncomfortable. I even felt sorry for her, just for a few moments.
“What’s happening to me?” Anna Gasps
Marcus divulges that he believes that she is experiencing her ‘first’ Human emotion. Anna looks devastated and screams “Noooooooooooooooooo!”
‘Lisa Smirks at her Mother’s emotional response’
The next thing we see is Anna marching into (again I think it is) her conference room. Marcus following her, she says that this is terrible, but they ‘must not act rashly’. She mutters that ‘we’ as in Humans and Fifth alike I imagine, must pay for this. Then ‘shockingly’ Marcus grabs her arm to stop her using the Visitor Holo-consol. I say shockingly, as Marcus has never touched Anna, been close but not touched. This has to be big.
“This is too soon, if we initiate the sequence now…” Anna pulls away and activates this sequence.
“Do you know what you have done?” Marcus asks harshly (Again this is not the sort of behaviour we have come to know of Marcus).
“Vengeance” She replies still crying.
We now are in space, close to Earth, we see the Armada of Motherships, Anna’s newly arrived fleet, and they open up as they emit a red mist into the atmosphere.
I was going to save my theory for the very end, but I think here is a great place. Now, I have had discussions with Fans of the show, but have not discussed what my thoughts are. Most think that this ‘Red Sky’ is Anna emitting R6 into the atmosphere so that all humans will be tagged. But I do not believe that to be the case. If it was just R6 Marcus would not have flipped out at her like he did for one thing. So what do I think it is I hear you all cry? I believe that Anna’s terrible plan is: “Terraforming”.
Any Science Fiction fan is familiar with the term Terraforming; it basically means that I think that Anna wises to ‘change’ earth to be more suited to the Visitors. It is clear that they do not intend to leave, and they plan to eradicate Humans, so why not make it to their liking?
A now composed Anna is looking out at the New York Skyline, as the sky turns Red.
We cut to all the main character’s shocked reactions upon seeing the sky turn red. Obviously wondering what’s going on.
‘Even Lisa looks shocked at her Mother’s rash decision’
We see that this is affecting the whole world. And some beautiful sequences follow of Motherships in Los Angles, Hong Hong and Florence are seen. Again I love the music, it really sets the mood!
Marcus is with a team of Medics, and they are healing someone, they slowly pan up to show…Joshua! He gasps as he is brought back to life. I was SO glad to see that ‘that’ was not the end of Joshua.
Marcus: “Welcome Back”
Crack pot theory now: Did anyone else notice how kindly Marcus said ‘Welcome back’ it was not “Welcome back I’m going to torture you until I get the truth” It was a really kindly “Welcome back” With a nice smile. Or maybe it is just me, who hopes that Marcus is a secret Fifth Columnist. But let’s think back through the series now, the significant looks that Marcus and Joshua shared when Anna did things they did not agree with, like the empathy tests for example. If you now go back and watch you will see what I mean!
We end the final episode of season one with a sweeping shot from Anna within the Mothership, to the Mothership set against the new ‘Red Sky’
That is the end of my Red Sky review; but I do have a few other things to share.
I have had several V fans (Who refer to themselves as Veeks: V-Geeks. How cute? And I am ‘The V girl’) Contact me via Twitter and they all share the view that one thing that is wanted by the Fandom is ‘merchandising’, for example: T-shirts, hats, stationery. I know that my daughter would Love to have a V pencil Tin! And so many people would love to dress up as a Peace Ambassador this Halloween. I know my Daughter does.

Munchkin’s thoughts on V:
She said re Anna: “I would tell Anna to get off her Mothership, and leave everyone alone, and leave and NEVER COME BACK! ‘Cause she is mean!” She also told me that she thinks Marcus will be a good lizard.
Munchkin: Best bit about series one: “Lisa turning Good, she is my bestest Lady on V”.
Saddest bit about series one: “Georgie dying, I want him undead, he is my bestest Man in V”.
Munchkin said Jack is mad about Georgie too. Awwe!
So until next time:
Visitors: We are of Peace always.
Resistance: We are fighting always.
Fifth Column: John May Lives!
Bring on the #Hobbenator!

Welcome back to our ongoing reviews of V series
, episode “Fruition”. If you have not seen “Fruition”, this is a full review with analysis and you are advised to stop reading now. Thank you.
Previously on V: Kyle Hobbes is framed by the Dastardly Marcus, for the destruction of the Lyndhurst company warehouse.Lisa and Tyler sneak off in a Visitor shuttle, and consummate their relationship… She fails the emotion test that Anna had every Visitor take, and Joshua covers it up. Anna offers the world “Blue Energy”, the power source of all Visitor technology.
Munchy image of Marcus with Anna and Blue Energy!
Lisa breaks up with Tyler as she find out that Anna has plans for Tyler that she is not happy about… She tells Anna she failed, so Anna decides that there is only one way to get Tyler back… A man likes nothing more then a damsel in distress… She brutally smacks Lisa and orders her legs broken (By none other then Herb Sommerfeld)
Evil Anna beats her daughter Lisa
We begin Fruition with a Tramp stumbling upon someone in a Peace Ambassadors uniform, badly beaten, we know this is Lisa… I was and was not shocked at the same time that Anna did this to her own daughter. On one hand I was thinking ‘How could she do that to her daughter?’ And the shock on Lisa’s face when her mother did this… on the other hand, Anna ‘is’ a heartless, emotionless Lizard and I would put nothing past her.
Agent Malik How right was I when I called her as A Visitor infiltrator? Erica Evans enter the Visitor Healing Centre where they need to investigate the ‘Female Visitor’ who was attacked. Imagine Erica’s shock when she sees Lisa, she tells Malik that she knows her, that she is her son’s girlfriend, and it is a shock to her that she is a Visitor. Erica immediately goes into Motherly mode, to me this seems not intentional, but natural. She covers Lisa with a blanket, and tries to comfort her.
V scar inflicted on Lisa’s face
Erica asks Lisa is she recognises the Men who attacked her, Lisa has a flash back of her Mother assaulting her and replies “No” but you can see the conflict in her eyes. Erica tells her everything will be all-right, and hugs her. Lisa reacts to this as if she is thinking, ‘wow this is how a mother should be’.
Erica Evans Comforts Lisa
Up on the Mothership Anna tells Joshua and Marcus that she needs to visit the healing centre, as her Daughter needs her Mother. Marcus informs Anna that they still have not healed Lisa’s injuries, Joshua says that he will heal her when they arrive. But Anna says No. He is to heal her legs but leave the bruises and gash on her face until she returns to the Mothership. She wants this to be seen. For the general population to be shocked that Lisa was attacked. “I want the whole world to see what the fifth column has done to my Daughter” She says.
“A picture is worth a thousand words” Anna adds with an evil smirk.
Kyle Hobbes is in the basement of St Josephine’s church, where he sees on the news that he has been yet again framed by the visitors for something he has not done.
Now we are at Chad Decker’s office area at the ‘news studio’ someone comes over and turns on ‘his’ television and asks if he’s seen the latest news yet… It is being reported about Lisa’s attack and Anna is going to address the world about the said attack later today. Chad confesses that he knows nothing about this, he looks upset. “I thought you were the Voice of the V’s. What happened? Did Anna fire you?” *Wow I loved that line!
The look on Chad’s face said it all!*
At St Josephine’s Church Jack is very concerned as the Church is full of people praying for the ‘attacked visitor’s sole’. He wishes they would spend more time praying for themselves.
Back at the Healing centre, Erica is with Lisa. *My eagle eyes noticed that Erica was holding Lisa’s hand*, as she was stroking her hair. It seems that she genuinely feels something for Lisa here*
Malik, the Visitor sleeper agent within the FBI comes into Lisa’s room with mug shots based on Lisa’s description, one of them is Hobbes. The other is non other then Stargate Atlantis Favourite Paul McGillion. Erica gently wakes Lisa, and shows her the pictures. Lisa positively identifies them as her attackers. Though it is obvious that she is lying. When Malik attracts Erica’s attention because Anna has arrived Also noted here that Lisa looked terrified at the sight of Anna.
Anna Arrives at FBI HQ
Erica is I think a little unnerved, seeing Anna up-close and personal. And then Lisa says “Mother”… Oh my, the shock on Erica’s face is unbelievable… Her son has been dating the Queen Lizard’s Daughter?
Morena was outstanding at portraying Anna being emotional. “Lisa? What have they done to my Daughter?” And it really does look like she was about to shed a tear or two.
“Sweetheart, you’re going to be ok. You are safe now” She says, then hugs Lisa. *I noted here that Lisa, though she hugged Anna back, looked very awkward and uncomfortable, mirror image to how she has embraced Erica beforehand* Anna smirks that ‘evil grin’ we have come to know as ‘I am up to something EVIL here’.
Anna and Erica are in a room within the healing centre, Anna is looking through the photographs of Lisa’s injuries, nicely playing at having emotional responses. Again looking close to tears. She is saying how she can not understand how anyone would want to cause so much pain or suffering. “There are some twisted people in our world” Erica tells Anna “Fortunately the majority of Humans are kind, good hearted.”
Anna explained that ‘this’ (As in the apparent fifth column ‘attack’ on Lisa) is the reason why she had kept Lisa’s identity a secrete. She tells Erica that Lisa was on the way to see Tyler when it happened. And asked if he knew. Erica responded with a ‘yes’, and ‘he’s deviated’. *Erica is NOT believing Anna’s displays of emotion, she knows better with her dealings with Ryan* Anna tells Erica that Lisa has “…Grown very fond of him…” And that he was lucky not to have been with her when it happened.
“As a Mother I am sure you can imagine how I feel right now” Anna emotionally says “As a Mother I know that if anyone tried to hurt my son, there’s nothing I wouldn’t do to stop them” Erica threatens Anna with out Anna becoming aware that Erica knows anything. Erica is heading up the FBI investigation into Lisa’s attack, she shows everyone mug shots of the men identified by Lisa, Lawrence Parker and Kyle Hobbes.
Paul McGillion as Parker with Charles Mesure as Hobbes
Erica manages to convince her boss to look for Parker. Tyler comes into Erica’s workplace to find out about Lisa. She Takes him to see her. Joshua is working on her injuries when they arrive. *Insert Erica, Tyler, Joshua and Lisa* As Tyler and Lisa talk, Joshua and Erica stand outside the room, he tells her that they have spoken on the comms devise. She immediately recognises him as Joshua. Joshua confirms what she knew was fact, that the two men Lisa identified are innocent. “Anna did this to her” He explains, The shock/repulsion on Erica’s face is evident.
Joshua obviously does not know why, but instructs Erica to find the Men so she can find out why. Lisa then tells Tyler, that she did not mean the things she has said, she really does want to see him. She proclaims that she was frightened as she has never felt like this about anyone before. He admits to the same.
Erica asks Joshua is Tyler is in danger, because her son is in love with Anna’s daughter. He explained that Tyler was just an assignment for Lisa in the beginning, but he now believes that her feelings for Tyler are real. And he does not think that she would hurt him.
Anna enters the room as Lisa is hugging Tyler and announces “Lisa it is time” She then puts Lisa’s shoes on. I noted how awkwardly this was done by Anna, as if she had never done this before, unless it was a wardrobe malfunction and the shoe was just a pain to get on and I am reading wrongly into it.
Please note in the image below that Lisa looks genuinely frightened. You can bet that Erica had picked up on that!
Anna is going to make a statement about the ‘incident’ to a live press. Chad Decker was there he asks Marcus why he had not been called upon, Marcus tells him Anna has been busy with the attack on one of their own. And that they have things under control. Once outside Anna turns to Lisa and instructs her not to look at any of the camera to make eye contact with anyone. Lisa asked why, Anna replies “The less you give them the more they want”.
Chad is like a little lost puppy *I totally agree with John from Vamongus on that point* Calling out for Anna’s attention, she ignores him, even Marcus asks why they have cut off Decker, Anna simply tells him that he will be brought back into this when the time was right. Anna approaches the podium, V security behind her.
“I come to you today with a heavy heart, A terrible hate crime has been commented against one of my people. Members of a terrorist group-the fifth column has brutally assaulted a member of my family, My own daughter Lisa…”
With that Lisa is brought up to stand with Anna.
Anna and Lisa are “ready” for the Press.
“Despite our best efforts to demonstrate our care and concern for the Human race to improve life on this planet; to share our resources and technology, asking nothing in return, There are those among you who wish to harm us. In the wake of yesterdays shuttle disaster and this brutal attack on my daughter… My People no longer feel safe here. I’ve come to a decision. We are leaving”.
We are leaving!
The crowd is in a state of shock and sighs/intakes of breath in complete horror at the mere thought of Anna leaving, Anna and the others make their way out of the crowd, Anna with a smirk on hr face. *I thought the wonderfully dramatic yet subtle music really added to the mood of despair that the crowd were feeling, Now everyone in the small New York resistance/fifth column coalition consisting of Erica, Jack, Hobbes and Ryan are meeting in St Josephine’s basement.
A very deflated Ryan makes the point that Anna is lying that she will never leave. As Hobbes rightly points out, it is all a show, the shuttle explosion, the Quote Hobbes: “The boohoo, the attack on the princess…” Erica tells everyone that they need to find out what the Visitors want Hobbes and Parker for. And she informs them that she had met with Joshua and he had told her that Anna had attacked Lisa, caused the wounds and broke her legs. Jack is shocked, and asks “How could she do that to her own daughter?”
Ryan answers that “Because she is not Human, she is a Visitor there is nothing that she wont do to get what she wants” Erica points out that what ever Parker is doing is important enough to Anna that she would hurt Lisa, her own flesh and blood *Or should that be scales and blood?* to get our attention and turn our sympathies towards them, as if they are the victims. It is decided that they look for Parker and try to get to him before the FBI find him.
At the Resistance Meeting
Hobbes has a “nameless” contact who meets with him, he says that he was hired to Kill Parker four weeks ago, but the person who hired him did not pass his “Smell test” Everything about him was fake. His contact said that she found then same, but was more lucky on Parker, she has a location for him. He thinks that Parker must have something that ‘they’ want, and it was because if this that Anna was blaming Hobbes and Parker on the assault of her daughter. Hobbes breaks into Parker’s apartment, he calls Erica, and tells her the address. Parker is not there as they talked.
Hobbes is seen taking Parker’s hard drive from his laptop computer
Aboard the Mothership, Decker is asking Marcus why Anna is not seeing him or returning his calls.
I just noticed in this picture how much the inside of the Mothership reminds me of the biomes At The Eden Project an amazing place, where in the ‘Bio Domes’ they have in one a Real Rainforest and the other the Mediterranean. This is just two parts of The Eden Project, so please click the image link below to learn more about this amazing place that I love!
“I’m sorry Chad” Marcus starts to talk to Chad in an almost sarcastic tone “But dealing with the attack of her Daughter, and coordination the withdrawal from your planet has left her with time for little else” Chad tells Marcus that he does not believe that they are going to simply leave. So Marcus tells him that they really have no choice as the Fifth Column has become a big threat. Chad thinks he can help. *I am impressed with this man’s complete over-self belief in himself. He really does think a lot of himself which is a credit to the Acting abilities of Scott Wolf*
“You’re underestimating ‘my’ influence Marucs” Chad says that he can reach out to the people of earth, to out pressure in the respective governments to ‘make’ them ‘go after’ the Fifth Column to keep the Visitors here on Earth. Chad Decker ‘needs’ them here, as before the Visitors arrived and Anna had him interview her, he was and would go back to being a ‘nobody’ if the Visitors are to really leave.
Marcus then goes strait to Anna and tells her that it is how she has foreseen, Decker is worried about them leaving.
“Good. I need him to be desperate to be convincing” She coldly states. Marcus states that Decker has always done as she has asked, so he is wondering why they have cut him off right at this point.
Anna: “I need him to be desperate”
Anna explains that if Decker is desperate, and concerned that they are really leaving, he will make a passionate plea to the world. That in turn will cause a public outcry and “We will get what we want”… Anna orders that the Captain of the Shanghai Mothership to leave. Immediately. We then cut to Shanghai and see the Mothership leave, to the despair of a young boy. The visual effects of the Motherships are unbelievably detailed, and really look the part. I really love the almost reptilian design of the Ships, looking very cobra-like. It really is a genius touch!
Shanghai Mother Ship Leaving
Chad Decker is now reporting on his new look ‘Special Commentary’ show. He makes an emotional plea to his listeners. “Just minutes ago, the first ship left from Shanghai in China, the first in Anna’s week long planned withdrawal and shutdown of all Sending waves of protest and outcry across the world…”
Chad Decker Special Commentary
“…London, Moscow, Rio. People everywhere reacting to the fact that when ‘they’ leave the Visitors will take with them their gifts to Humanity. It is my job to report the news objectively, However today I can’t sit back and pretend that I don’t have an onion. Because I do!
“The V’s saved my life. We ‘the people’ must fix this. If you care about your future, the health of your children, the world made safe and peaceful by their technology now ids the time. Let your voice be heard. Show the world how much Anna means to you! Show our elected officials that you want Anna and the Visitors to stay” Anna seems pleased with Chad’s ‘emotional plea’ to the world as she watches his show on the Mothership. Anna is So sinister and manipulative, and will use Chad Decker to get the things that she wants.
Anna Watching Chad
Jack and Ryan are in a car stake out of Parker’s home, Jack decides to talk to Ryan as he has been so deflated since Val left.
Ryan tells Jack that John May had told him that Human emotion was worth righting for, but he does not think that anymore. He say’s that Val has changed him, and allowed him to see the beauty in Humanity the Love he had for Val was his way of fighting Anna’s bliss. But without her he is worried that he will fall under the influence of the Bliss once more.
Jack says “With Faith we can, and with Faith we do”
Ryan
Erica gets into the car briefly, as they see Parker entering his building. Erica states that she will go in and check it out, and orders Ryan and Jack to cover front and back.
She knocks on his door, and he lets her in. He is adamant that whatever the Visitors said he has done he has not done it. *Which we all obviously know* Erica says that she believes him, but wants to know why he is on the run. Parker says that it is because someone had found him, and had broken in and stolen all his research. I Love Paul! He is such an amazing actor. When Munchkin saw this episode she yelped “Oh My God it’s Carson Beckett!” It does seem strange hearing him with out his Scottish accent that I LOVE.
Paul McGillion as Lawrence Parker
It is discovered that him and his colleagues were working on something to cut down on carbon emissions, but the bad side effects were it created algae, that caused problems with Marine life, causing a virus on the skin of fish, amphibians… Erica asks it… “What about Lizards?” Parker thinks possibly.
OMG Algae!
Erica asks him if the virus was deadly. Parker said yes potentially that is why they stopped. Erica asks him about the research, and if he has the formula of the compound. But he said he only worked on one part of the research, and who ever took his hard drive has it now.
Jack calls Erica, tells her to get out of there as the FBI was crawling all over the place. Erica tells Jack and Ryan to get out of there, and asks Parker to write down all the names of the ‘think tank’ she pockets a sample of the Algae. She takes the list of names and tells Parker she will do everything in her power to help him,, she tackles him to the floor as if to arrest him just in time for the FBI (Yes Malik) storms in. Paul Erica’s boss congratulates her, where Malik looks suspicious. Parker is formally arrested for the “Attempted murder of the Visitor known as Lisa” And is taken away.
Lawrence Parker Taken Away
Back in the FBI head quarters, Erica’s Boss proclaims that he has spoken with Washington. The Visitor are not going anywhere, the Government offered help in finding Fifth Column, the Visitors will continue to share their technology with us, in return the FBI will share their Intel of terrorists with the Visitors. Erica says that she doesn’t think its such a great idea. But they seem to have no choice. Even Malik pretends to be shocked.
Erica Evans with Rehka Sharma as Malik
The FBI are to form a Joint Taskforce with the Visitors to eradicate the Fifth Column. And part of that deal, all suspects will be handed to the Visitors for questioning, starting with Parker. Ohhh no. Anna has started to get her own way now. Her plans are beginning to take hold
Erica on a conference call with the others tell them that everyone within Parkers think tank were reported missing, so this means Anna had got to them already, and Parker was the missing link. Erica says she will try to get through to Lisa. To try to save Parker. Jack asks if that’s a good idea. Erica says “If she’s going use my son, I’m sure as hell gonna use her daughter” She hangs up as Anna, Lisa and the entourage have arrived for the line up.
Anna, Lisa and Marcus at FBI HQ
Erica asks to take Lisa to one side to talk her through what is about to happen, She gives her a photograph of Tyler, and says to her “Holding on to something that makes you feel safe gives you strength” She tells Lisa that the fate of that Man’s life and so much more depended on her telling the truth about her attacker.
Is Lisa about to tell Erica Evan the truth?
She looks at be about to tell Erica the truth when Anna, obviously cottoning on that something was off, enters Erica’s office. In the Line up, Anna, I think sensing Lisa’s uncertainty steps up to her, and outs her hand on her shoulder, and to an outsider would look like she was being Motherly, showing support what she said “I’m here” It was more of a warning I am here, not do as you were instructed.
Anna with Lisa at FBI HQ
Lisa looks to Erica, then back to her Mother, and knows what she must do. She points to Parker. Erica asks if she is sure. Lisa says she is positive. Anna smirks at Erica.
Outside, Anna approaches Erica with Lisa, and tells her how much she appreciates her for helping bring her daughters attacker to justice. We see Parker being dragged off by Visitor security. Anna tells Erica that they intend to question him about his associates, and hopefully lead to other Fifth Column and Kyle Hobbes. Erica cleverly tells Anna “I want you to know that I’m going to make stopping the fifth column my top priority” So Anna replies: “Then I’m sure we’ll cross paths again soon” With an eerie smile. Erica replies with an unofficial threat “I’m not going anywhere Anna”
Anna smirks and says: “As of this evening neither am I”
We now back with Hobbes in St Josephine’s basement. He is looking at the contains of Parker’s hard drive. He then calls someone, and says that he has what they are really looking for… “I’ve got Parker’s research, question is how much is it worth to you?” *Now, I have had my doubts about the Hobbenator (The nick name that I have come up with for Kyle Hobbes) From the first episode he was in (Welcome to the war), This really had me thinking, ‘Ah! I knew it…’
Charles Mesure as “The Hobbenator”
Up on the Mothership, Chad is waiting for Anna, she arrives, he is all smiles, and mentions that he has been trying to contact her all day, She said “I’ve had other things on my mind besides Chad Decker”. Giggle, I liked that line! She thanked him for his plea, and that it was through his help that they are staying. Chad finally sees that Anna has been manipulating him, that she shut him out of purpose, so that he would get frantic and make that public plea. Anna states that the only interest she has is her People’s safety.
Anna’s only interest
Anna demands that he gives her the name of his source, the contact, who gave him information about the Fifth Column. But once again he says no. But how long will that last? I am under the impression that when Chad had this ‘brain surgery’ he had his thinking modified or a “mild conversion”. There is a little back and forth between Hobbes and Ryan, Hobbes accuses Ryan of not being on his game, and that he should out everything behind him so that Anna has nothing over him.
Ryan accuses Hobbes
Back up to the Mothership, Anna is in the “Hatchery” with Lisa, We see the Eggs she had laid, are huge and squirming, *Lots of sound squishy (so Munchkin described it) sound effects. They really did sound disgusting, like there were Lizards ready to burst out of them* “The eggs are about to hatch” Anna says with s very big smirk.
999 Eggs for Queen Anna V Army
Anna tells Lisa that Tyler’s Mother is their most important asset, as she is the head of the taskforce. Lisa said to Anna, that she will keep her close to her and have her believe that she has ‘real’ feelings fir her, like her son.
Lisa goes to Joshua, and questions him If her Mother’s eggs are aloud to hatch the soldiers will destroy the Fifth Column. Lisa is fully aware of her emotions, her feelings for Tyler and his Mother ‘are’ real. And she does not want the Fifth Column destroyed, She knows now for sure that her Mother is evil. Erica would not have done such a thing to Tyler to achieve her goals. Erica comes home to Tyler, he calls her a Hero. And hugs her, like everything was back to normal. You can see she is torn. She wants to tell Tyler the truth, but timing is everything. If she acts too quickly Tyler will run into the arms of her nemesis Anna.
Mother Erica with her son Tyler
Tyler asks her if she is ok with him dating a Visitor, she admits that it it weird but the will get over it. And then takes a different tactic. She tells him that she wants to get to know Lisa and Anna better. This I am sure is so she can get access to the Mothership, they have been trying for weeks now to destroy the Eggs on the ship. What a better way to get up to the ship in the pretence of friendship…
Marcus comes to Anna to announce that the Fleet she had sent for would be entering the solar system soon. And will be shortly in ‘Human Radar’ range. She said that they will use their technology to render our technology useless. “They will see what we want them to see nothing more” She says. Marcus then tells her that the fear of the Fifth Column is spreading through all the ships. So Anna tells him “They just need their queen to assuage their fears” She then enters the ‘Bliss chamber’ to brain wash her people.
Anna’s Bliss
Anna starts her Bliss speech. “Take comfort in knowing that I am here. There is nothing to fear. We will remain among Humans, but the Fifth Column will never harm you…” Lisa and Joshua look to each other and smile, they are immune to Anna’s Bliss. I almost expected them to hold hands there awe! But Ryan on earth seems to be affected by it and misses a text message from Leah saying that Val’s waters just broke.
No Bliss for Joshua and Lisa
On earth a car pulls up in a side street. Hobbes appears from the shadows. The window reels down, it is Marcus…
When Did Marcus learn to drive?
Marcus asks him what is to stop him from killing Hobbes. “Because I’ve got Parker’s research, and you wouldn’t be here if that didn’t scare the hell outta you” They come to an agreement, Marcus gets the research, Hobbes gets his slate wiped clean and lots of money. To me is seemed that Hobbes knows Marcus. And I have even gone as far as to call that Hobbes might actually be a rogue Visitor, neither with or against Anna.
The crack pot theory
And another crack-pot theory?? Yes? Ok. I have said before that maybe Lisa is John May’s child, but I have changed my mind after seeing this episode. I think Marcus is her Father… He is always seeming to be there. Always so loyal… And seemed genuinely concerned for Lisa. And I am wondering if Anna kept him in the Dark about Lisa’s assault being in house. Ok, I might be totally wrong here. And if I am I will gladly admit I am wrong, but I did call Malik right!
V Series “Hearts and Minds” – Preview Analysis
by WR_Systems on May.03, 2010, under ABC Studios, Charles Mesure, Christopher Shyer, Creator Series, David Richmond-Peck, Elizabeth Mitchell, Herb Sommerfeld, Joel Gretsch, Kenneth Johnson, Laura VanDervoort, Lexa Doig, Logan Huffman, Lourdes Benedicto, Mark Hildreth, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, Rekha Sharma, Ronald D. Moore, Scott Wolf, Studio Series, V The New Series, Warner Brothers
Well after
some horrific events including the death of our beloved Georgie played by David Richmomd-Peck, with Chad Decker as he struggles to comprehend the beautifully twisted Anna portrayed by the lovely Morena Baccarin and Laura VanDervoort deals with her emotions, much more is about to be revealed!
Of course we all MUST run in terror from the coming army of Anna Visitor. We can only say that this Tuesday evenings “Hearts and Minds” episode will mark a potential for a counterstrike moment for the V Resistance and the Fifth Column and contain a revelation not to be missed!

The extended promotional trailer I have just reviewed indicates that this may be the first time the Freedom Fighters on Earth have sufficient advance warning to fight back against the evil Anna and minions including the dastardly Marcus Visitor played by wonderful actor Christopher Shyer. Keep looking to the sky and watch your back!
We will try to avoid direct spoilers, but can say this: The series is following the fine tradition of the original V but with far more attention to detail than the previous incarnation. In “Hearts and Minds”, will Chad Decker continue to be blinded by the V’s and their notorious scheme to enslave us all? I think not!

With where the new series is going does not mean that the original V by Kenneth Johnson was not deficient. Quite the contrary. The original had a large ensemble cast as does the current version of V. The major difference in my opinion is that as a episodic variation from its inception, V Series 2009-2010 allows the Single Effect of each episode to contain a deeper characterization or “look inside” into the creators have in store for us and what the Fifth Column, the Resistance and the evil minions of Anna are up to as the forces of good and evil battle for control of the planet.
With the help of Joshua portrayed by Mark Hildreth picture above, the Resistance has more than a fighting chance and with Erica putting on the boxing gloves in “Hearts and Minds” let’s just say it is almost a done deal!
As far as WHR and our other V Series reviewers are concerned, this show richly deserves to be renewed for several seasons and perhaps even a big screen theatrical version as well. We fully support the team of very talented people led by several individuals we chat with regularly and hope that such is under consideration. Heck I would even confess the same to Father Jack when given the chance as Chad is doing below.
We have included several images from tomorrow nights episode for your enjoyment and what kind of news site ere we not to include a picture of Morena Baccarin as the crafty Queen of the V’s?
Make sure to tune in tomorrow to ABC and every Tuesday at 10 PM Eastern and Western time zones to watch the magic of the delightfully evil Anna as she continues her plans for the domination of Earth while the forces of good attempt to do everything in within their power to stop her. And who is Chad Decker actually loyal to? The people of Earth or has he been seduced by Anna?
In closing, WHR will announce a secret Special Project for V Series tomorrow May 04, 2010 at 3:00 PM Pacific, 6:00 PM Eastern, 11:00 PM GMT time. Until then take care and protect your family from the plot by the V’s to not only take over the world, but feed us as snacks to the hungry Morena Baccarin, Errrr Anna!

Greetings, V Fans!
Here is a recap/review with analysis of the latest V episode. Hope you like it!
In this episode, we continue to follow the stories of Ryan (Morris Chestnut) and his pregnant girlfriend, Valerie (Lourdes Benedicto); the Visitors’ favorite reporter, Chad Decker (Scott Wolf); the sinister plottings of Anna (Morena Baccarin); the growing relationship between Tyler (Logan Huffman) and Lisa (Laura Vandervoort); and Erica’s (Elizabeth Mitchell) struggle to effectively combat the V’s while keeping her son safe.

Last week, Ryan was frantically searching for Valerie after she found his hidden stash of weapons and passports and took off. With the help of Erica’s FBI access and a cell phone trace, she was found to be at a V healing center. Ryan was able to get her out of there, but not before the V discovered that she is carrying a human/Visitor hybrid baby (the V doctor didn’t share this information with Val, though).
Episode Recap/Review:
In this week’s episode, Ryan and Val continue their escape from the V healing center. Val is understandably confused, angry, and a little freaked out by everything that is happening. Ryan confesses that he is, in fact, a Visitor.
Val gets it right away that his being a Visitor probably means their baby might be a bit unusual. She wants an explanation—about everything, and right now—but now is not the time. The V want their baby and they need to get away.
On the New York mother ship, Anna (Morena Baccarin) formally greets the new recruits for the Visitors’ live-aboard program.
Marcus (Christopher Shyer) interrupts with the information that a human female is pregnant with a hybrid child. The always-composed Anna shows a rare glimpse of emotion at the news and, once she ditches her guests, instructs Marcus that his top priority is to find and capture the hybrid child’s parents. She says “I need them alive” (we’ll get back to that line later, so don’t forget).
Back at Ryan and Valerie’s apartment, Ryan wants to grab the essentials and get Val to safety, but she doesn’t trust him and wants to call the police. While they argue, two guards from the V health center show up but their fighting skills are no match for Ryan, who easily puts them down using the guards’ own blades. Unfortunately, one guard’s face is sliced open during the fight and Val sees the reptile-like skin underneath. She realizes that Ryan must look like that too and wonders what their baby is going to look like. All Ryan can say about that is, “Don’t look.”
Anna, Marcus, and doctor-on-board-the-mothership and Fifth Columnist Joshua (Mark Hildreth) attend a virtual meeting of the top doctors from all 29 motherships.
Anna is unhappy that the V doctors were wrong about the impossibility of a human-Visitor hybrid child. She worries that the Fifth Column could “breed an entire generation” of “mongrels,” hybrid children with human emotions to fight against the Visitors. To protect against this threat to their species, Anna tells the doctors that they must accelerate the “initiatives” of the live-aboard program and to “commence extraction procedures” on the human residents immediately. Hmmm. We are left to wonder what Anna’s ‘initiatives’ might entail and what the doctors could be ‘extracting.’
At this point, Anna seems to change her mind about how to handle the fugitive parents. Remember, she previously told Marcus that she needed them alive. Now, however, she tells him to “dissect” them in order to find out how the pregnancy happened and how to stop it ever happening again. Oh yeah, and destroy the baby. So do Ryan and Valerie have to be alive when dissection begins? Or did Anna change her mind about their ‘wanted dead or alive’ status? Anna’s thought processes are far beyond those of this lowly, merely human, reporter.
Back with Ryan and Val, who run from the V health center to Dr. Leah Pearlman (Lexa Doig), the V doctor that first appeared in Episode 5 (“Welcome to the War”). Val wants an abortion but is told the pregnancy is too advanced. Val realizes that Dr. Pearlman is a V in human disguise, like Ryan.
Leah questions Valerie about her experience at the V healing center. Val reveals that she was given a “vitamin shot” that was really R6, a substance that will enable the V to track her. Luckily, Leah has been working on something to neutralize the tracking function of R6, but the function fades over a period of up to 24 hours so they’re not safe yet. Ryan and Val have to find a place to hide. Leah decides to go along for the sake of the baby, saying, “There’s nothing more important than this baby.” She doesn’t say why, though. Does she share Anna’s belief that a generation of hybrids could be a threat to the Visitors?
Ryan calls Erica to let her know that he is taking Val to safety and they won’t be coming back. He also tells her he was wrong to keep the truth from Valerie and suggests that Erica consider the same might be true for her son, Tyler (Logan Huffman). Ryan also tells Erica to contact Joshua on the ship if she needs help. I guess I’ll have to go back and revisit some prior episodes, but I don’t remember Leah or Valerie having been trusted just yet with Joshua’s identity. Isn’t this kind of risky, talking in front of them and over a cellular phone? Am I reading too much into this, or have the writers intentionally left a door open for later betrayal or discovery?
Back in New York, intrepid reporter Chad Decker (Scott Wolf) goes on the air to announce that today he will have surgery to repair the brain aneurism the V said he would have in the future without treatment. The announcement reads a lot like an ad for V medical treatment, with Chad telling the viewing public that “maybe, just maybe, if you or someone you love is in need of medical care, the Visitors will save your life too.” Strong words, Chad.
When Erica gets home, Tyler is watching V-related news on his laptop.
He is obviously still upset with his mom, thinking that she cheated on his dad and lied to him about his father. Never mind that Erica insists the tests were wrong and the man he always thought was his father is really his father. But I digress….While Erica tries to talk to Tyler, the online news source is reporting that V enthusiasts have banded together to try and buy an abandoned church for something called the Church of V. Erica is outraged by this announcement, but Tyler sympathizes. He says “people are looking for answers,” and we can see that Tyler himself is looking for something to grasp onto. Tyler asks Erica to “name one bad thing the Vs have done since they got here,” a question that she will be asked again later in this episode. It looks like she is about to tell him the truth but he gets up and puts on his Ambassador jacket (the one with the little V spy camera in it) so she has to switch gears. Tyler tells Erica that he is off to meet Lisa and Erica says she’d like to meet Lisa sometime (Erica isn’t counting the earlier underwear incident in Tyler’s bedroom).
Back on the ship, a different mother-child conversation is taking place. Anna tells Lisa that she wants Tyler to take part in the live-aboard program and she expects Lisa to make it happen. Lisa wonders aloud what will happen to Tyler when Anna is finished with him, but not for long—Anna gives her “the look,” and walks away. We can probably guess what that means for Tyler.
Anna visits a big, round room on the ship where a group of live-aboard humans are being processed in. Joshua reports that their plans have been accelerated as ordered and V doctors are already experimenting on the humans.
Marcus hurries over with news that the two guards sent to retrieve Ryan and Valerie were killed. (Remember them? The ones from the V healing center that Ryan killed in his and Val’s apartment?) Anna is fed up and ready for some real results. She orders Marcus to release a “soldier,” a shocker to Marcus and Joshua because of the violent mess the soldier is expected to leave in its wake. Marcus is supposed to follow it around and clean up its messes.
Anna and Lisa give Tyler the good news that his application for the live-aboard program has been approved. Yay! However, he worries that mom won’t like it so Anna suggests Lisa might be able help change her mind.
Back at the (hideout? interrogation chamber? New York Fifth Column Headquarters?) Father Jack and Kyle Hobbes (Charles Mesure) get word from Joshua on the V ship that Anna has sent a soldier after Ryan and the baby. Jack calls Erica with the news, and Erica shares equally disturbing news that the sniper is a trained killer, ex-military. Erica decides to visit the sniper’s house, interview his wife, and try to find more information that can help Ryan and Valerie.
Meanwhile, Ryan, Val and Leah arrive at the Thompsons’ place where they are hoping to receive help with their escape. The Thompsons (played by Philip Granger and Sarah-Jane Redmond) offer their place in the Adirondacks, which they say is fully stocked with supplies. Sweet!
On the ship, Marcus reports to Anna that something is interfering with the R6 in the human mother’s body and they are unable to track her, but—good news!–the soldier has finally located the fugitives.
Also on the ship, reporter Chad Decker is undergoing treatment for his as-yet-undeveloped brain aneurism.
When he wakes up, he finds Anna is there to greet him. She smilingly tells him the procedure was a success. At his surprise that she would be there herself, she tells him she didn’t want him to wake up alone, and asks if there isn’t any family or someone he is close to. He answers that there isn’t anyone and shares that his mother is deceased and he doesn’t have a good relationship with his father. A more intimate and caring relationship now established between them, Anna confides that there are people out there called the Fifth Column who want to hurt the V. Chad looks very sincere when he offers to help by running a story on them.
Erica, Jack and Kyle head for the Thompsons’ place, hoping to get there in time to help Ryan and Val.
It’s dark at the Thompsons’ place. Ryan and Valerie are getting ready to leave, headed, probably for the Thompsons’ cabin in the Adirondacks. Suddenly the lights go out and they all know they’re in trouble. It’s the V soldier dispatched by Anna. Mr. Thompson takes a rifle from a gun rack on the wall.
I am sure I’m missing something obvious, but I was a little confused as to why he was using the light on the rifle’s scope. They were all tiptoeing around the house trying to be stealthy, but this guy is shining a light around in the dark. Did he want the intruder to find him more easily?
The soldier kills him, then his wife (she’s using the light too). The soldier seems to be able to hear their heartbeats and he sniffs the air like he also has a heightened sense of smell. Ryan, Val and Leah making their way quietly downstairs, but the soldier comes down through the ceiling and a big knife fight begins. Ryan is good! But the soldier is better and Ryan is about to be killed. Fortunately for everyone, Erica and Jack burst in, guns blazing, and take the soldier out just in time. But where is Hobbes? Everyone runs out of the house toward the cars, but the soldier is right behind them! He isn’t dead after all. Just in time (again), Hobbes jumps out of the cover of the trees and hits the soldier in the chest with an axe. That ought to do it but no, the soldier is trying to pull the axe out of his chest. Hobbes runs to the car, jumps in, and they all take off.
Ryan, Val and Leah plan to continue their journey by train. With everyone at the train station, Erica, Jack, Kyle, and Ryan discuss their encounter with the soldier at the Thompsons.’ We learn that Visitor soldiers are bred for fighting, but Ryan is different; he was bred for working. Ryan sure has great fighting skills for a worker, don’t you think? We also learn that when Ryan was on the ship, Joshua told him that Anna already laid thousands of soldier eggs. The group worries that time is short before those soldiers are unleashed on the human population.
It’s time to go. Leah boards the train, but Val tells Ryan that he won’t be coming with her. He tries to convince her, for her safety at least, to let him come along. But she can’t forgive him, she never wants to see him again. He tells her that everything he ever did was for her, then she tells him goodbye and boards the train. He watches them go.
Chad Decker approaches Father Jack in the church as he is finishing his prayers. Jack asks about Chad’s medical procedure and how he is feeling. Chad says he doesn’t feel any different at all, and questions whether the diagnosis was real or a lie. He tells Jack that he thinks Anna is keeping secrets and asks for the priest’s help. He says Anna is worried about the Fifth Column and asks whether Jack has ever heard of them. Warily, Jack says no. Chad suggests one of Jack’s parishioners might have heard of them. Chad says he is worried about the Visitors and needs to know he isn’t alone. Jack promises to tell Chad if he hears anything.
So who is Chad lying to? Is he deceiving Anna, making her think that he trusts her and is on her side? Or is he trying to deceive Jack, pretending to be suspicious of Anna? Chad’s face has an unreadable but very creepy expression as he leaves the church.
On the ship, Marcus reports to Anna that they have now completely lost the R6 signal and can no longer track the mother and baby.
Chad tells Anna he has begun his investigation into the Fifth Column and he might have something for her; he will let her know when he has more information.
Erica pours herself a drink at her kitchen counter and leans against the refrigerator, exhausted.
Lisa shows up at the door looking for Tyler, who isn’t home. While they wait for him, Erica and Lisa have a little chat over tea.
Lisa tells Erica that Tyler is really interested in the live-aboard program. Erica looks worried and says she feels like Tyler is slipping away from her but she wants him to be happy.
When Tyler comes home with flowers for Lisa, Lisa takes him aside to talk. She tells him that she doesn’t think that it’s a good idea for him to join the live-aboard program. She tells him it’s because she thinks his mom needs him. Tyler tells Lisa that what he wants is to be with her and he thought she wanted the same thing. Lisa gives back the flowers and leaves. Angry, Tyler confronts Erica and demands to know what she said to Lisa. He tells his mom that he is moving up to the ship and there is nothing she can do about it.
In the egg chamber on the ship, Anna is displeased with Lisa. She thought she had made it clear how important it was to have Tyler on the ship and Lisa has acted to prevent that. Lisa defends her actions, saying she thinks it’s not a good move for them to make at this point. She believes Tyler’s mother isn’t ready to let him go, and that she can be more effective with Tyler if she has his mother’s cooperation. After a pause, Anna says she trusts Lisa’s judgment. But does she?
Analysis Focus: An Assassin’s Life
“Heretics Fork” centers, in part, on the sniper that appeared at the end of last week’s “We Can’t Win” (Ep. 108). His name is Jeffrey Barnes, he has a wife and daughter, and he not only trusts the Visitors, he reveres them. He believes that the V are a peaceful race and it is up to people like him to fight in their defense.
Barnes is played by the very talented Ty Olsson, a Canadian actor that has appeared in many of our favorite shows including Human Target, Battlestar Galactica, Supernatural, and Stargate SG-1, in which he played a certain Col. Barnes. Wait—Barnes. Is that a coincidence?
At the start of “Heretics Fork,” sniper Barnes is being questioned by FBI agent-cum-Fifth Column resistance leader Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell), who demands to know why this human would take the side of the Visitors against his own race. But the critical information Agent Evans is after is what happened to the stolen hard drive. Names and addresses of Fifth Column operatives are stored on that hard drive and she and the others are determined to find it and warn the other cells that the V are onto them.
While hard-core former soldier/mercenary Kyle Hobbes (Charles Mesure—LOVED him as the Archangel Michael in Xena) is enthusiastically willing to resort to extreme physical violence in order to wrest the information from their prisoner, Father Jack Landry (Joel Gretsch) can’t bring himself to support the violence and stops Hobbes (for now).
But when Erica and Jack leave to pursue other parts of our story (as detailed above), Hobbes introduces Barnes to the Heretics Fork, a double-ended fork that is strapped to the subject’s neck so that the tines simultaneously press up into the flesh below the jaw and down into the base of the throat.
The person wearing it would not be able to fall asleep or even to relax their neck at all without stabbing themselves with the tines. In this reporter’s opinion, the Heretics Fork is kind of a strange choice of torture device for Hobbes. He strikes me as the type of guy that would prefer quicker methods, unless he had the luxury of time that does not present itself here. Hobbes doesn’t get to play with his toy anyway because Father Jack comes back in the nick of time, then the little ball that is the V phone starts glowing and ringing—a call from Joshua (Mark Hildreth) on the V ship, warning that Anna (Morena Baccarin) has dispatched a V soldier to go after Ryan (Morris Chestnut), Val (Lourdes Benedicto) and the baby.
Cut to: Erica at the sniper’s home, interviewing his wife (Sonya Salomaa).
It is here and in a later interview with Barnes himself that we learn why Barnes feels indebted to the Visitors. Barnes’ daughter (Havana Guppy) had been hit by a car, the driver busy with his cell phone and not paying attention to the road. The little girl was paralyzed from the neck down. But then “the V came” and healed her.
It isn’t clear from their story whether the Barneses took their daughter to a healing center, or if the V somehow identified this family as potential allies and offered to heal the girl. The second scenario is creepier, but it’s probably more straightforward than that and my imagination is simply running wild.
Now that Erica has her information, it’s time to search the house. She asks to use the bathroom before she leaves and takes the opportunity to snoop around. The stolen hard drive is located in an upstairs room behind a desk. She grabs it and hurries back to the others.
Back at the interrogation hideout, Hobbes prints what information is left on the recovered hard drive (nice color printout, by the way).
Someone had attempted to erase the data, so only partial names and addresses are retrievable. Erica recognizes the name “Thompson” from an earlier phone call with Ryan. Ryan, Valerie and Dr. Leah Pearlman (Lexa Doig) are seeking help from someone named Thompson, which probably means they are headed for trouble. Erica tries one more time to convince Barnes to talk.
But Barnes is devoted to the V and asks Erica to “name one bad thing that they’ve done since they arrived.” (Tyler asks her the very same question in this episode, and has the same response to her silence: “You can’t, can you?”) Barnes becomes very emotional, revealing his fear that people like her will scare the peaceful Visitors away. Understanding that Barnes will never willingly help them, Erica hands him over to Hobbes.
“Time for all decent people to leave the room now,” he says. Father Jack, obviously disturbed by what he knows is about to take place, nevertheless leaves the room and waits with Erica in the car while Hobbes carries out his interrogation.
When Hobbes comes out, he has the information they need: the Thompsons live on a farm just outside Nyack (about 30 miles north of New York City, along the Tappan Zee).
We leave our sniper for a while, presumably still tied by his wrists from the ceiling, suffering the aftereffects of Hobbes’ interrogation techniques.
Near the end of the episode and after a lot of very interesting action (discussed above), our Fifth Column conspirators are deciding what to do with Barnes. Hobbes offers to make him disappear into a “secret prison overseas,” unless someone else has a better idea. No one does, and Barnes is consigned into Hobbes’ care.
Of course, there will be no overseas travel or secret prison. When next we see Barnes, Hobbes is leading him through the woods. They come to a halt and Barnes asks Hobbes, “Is this it?” But it’s not the end of Barnes yet. Hobbes says, “No. First you’re going to tell me everything you know about the Vs. Then you’re going to beg me to kill you.”
