Chuck Versus The Tooth Recap Review – Chuck Renewal Confirmed AGAIN!
by ceramicat on May.13, 2010, under Adam Baldwin, Brandon Routh, Celebrity Series, Christopher Lloyd, Chuck, Joshua Gomez, Ryan McPartlin, Sarah Lancaster, Studio Series, Yvonne Strahovski, Zachary Levi
Hi there Chuck fans!
Welcome to another edition of our Chuck series recap reviews!
Note: Managing Editor WR_Systems (Kenn) reported many weeks ago that Chuck would be renewed after this was discussed at WonderCon pending the official announcement made last week which everyone seemed to miss. He made announcement on Twitter from the main WormholeRiders account and re-tweeted this news several times including this week. A few however wanted to start a “Save Chuck” campaign preferring to not believe which is their right to do so, even as late as last night!
This weeks episode is Chuck Versus The Tooth with special guest star Christopher Lloyd. As usual the episode was hilarious as always.
Hopefully after reading this recap you’ll decide to go over to NBC.Com/Chuck to watch the episode online. All photos are courtesy of NBC/Universal.
Chuck professes his love to Sarah while they have a quiet movie night at home, although Sarah has not yet returned Chuck’s verbal affection. The news reports that President Kuti of Zamibia has arrived in Los Angeles and will be attending a Beethoven performance. Chuck falls asleep and has a crazy dream, involving General Beckman with cymbals, Beethoven, and Daniel Shaw delivering Zamibian food to Chuck’s front door. Chuck freaks out and shoots Shaw, only to wake up and realize it was all a dream… or was it?
Chuck believes his dream was trying to tell him something and calls an emergency meeting with Sarah, Casey and General Beckman. Chuck believes his dream told him that President Kuti will be assassinated by a member of The Ring at the Beethoven concert. General Beckman knows what she has to do, and orders Chuck to see a CIA therapist in fear that Chuck’s dreams are affecting his work and the team’s.
Chuck meets with Dr. Dreyfus (Christopher Lloyd) and he talks about how Sarah doesn’t say, “I love you” to him. Dr. Dreyfus tells Chuck that the dreams he has are products of his subconscious interacting with the Intersect. For the first time, Chuck learns that the Intersect comes along with a host of side effects, one being insanity. However, Chuck is still convinced that something bad is going to happen to President Kuti at the symphony.
Although Chuck does his best to convince Dr. Dreyfus of his sanity, the good doctor removes Chuck from duty for the time being. Awesome is on the mend from his “malaria” and Ellie returns from the pharmacy to give him medicine. She runs into Casey who suggests snake herbs as a perfect remedy, however, Ellie still thinks Casey is strange and politely ignores him. At home, Chuck lies to Sarah and says Dr. Dreyfus told him he was fine.
At the Buy More, Morgan notices something is wrong with Chuck. Chuck confesses to Morgan that he’s been having crazy dreams and that General Beckman made him go see a doctor. But Chuck is convinced his dream means that President Kuti will be assassinated tonight at the Beethoven concert. Morgan, as Chuck’s best friend, believes him and helps out by getting tickets and tuxes for the symphony.
At the Beethoven concert, Morgan and Chuck keep their eyes on President Kuti to make sure nothing happens to him. Morgan talks to Chuck about Anna, but they’re not there to talk about their love lives, they’re there to make sure President Kuti doesn’t get killed.
Justin tells Ellie that he works for the CIA and he needs to talk to her about her father. He lies and says Casey is a threat to her dad. He also tells her to keep everything a secret because if she were to tell Chuck or Awesome about any of this, they would think she was crazy. Back at Castle, Sarah and Casey realize that Chuck has gone to the symphony with Morgan to try and prove them wrong about President Kuti. They immediately rush to the rescue.
At the concert, Chuck has fallen asleep and is having another dream. This time he is alone on stage and he sees a bloody Shaw. Then he realizes that Dr. Kowambe, a scientist, is the real threat to President Kuti and that he plans to slit the President’s throat during the symphony. Chuck needs to get to the balcony as soon as possible before the assassination occurs.
Sarah and Casey arrive just in time to see Chuck running toward the balcony. Chuck convinces Sarah to trust him, while Casey sedates Morgan. Chuck does a body search of Dr. Kowambe but doesn’t find anything, instead, he flashes on Kowambe’s tooth that has Ring intelligence. Chuck, out of desperation to prove his sanity, punches Dr. Kowambe in the mouth and knocks out his tooth (then grabs it when no one is looking). Chuck rants and raves like a lunatic and gets carried away to the psych ward. Unfortunately for him, no one believes he’s not crazy.
General Beckman chews Casey and Sarah out for Chuck and Morgan’s actions the night before. Sarah’s worried about Chuck and learns that Dr. Dreyfus believes the Intersect is overwhelming Chuck’s brain. This means Chuck’s mental deterioration may be unavoidable. Sarah’s visually upset, but Casey tries to make her feel better by suggesting they pay Chuck a visit at the hospital.
Chuck can’t believe he’s a patient in a psychiatric ward and meets another patient, Merlin, who is very much mentally unsound. Chuck soon realizes he is in a CIA facility where everyone used to be a spy: some have been waiting for their team to come for them for over 10 years. Later, Ellie visits Casey and notices guns in his closet. When she runs to tell Awesome, Awesome keeps Casey’s cover, but this only makes Ellie believe Justin more.
Sarah and Casey visit Chuck and he sneaks the tooth to Sarah for her to get it analyzed in the lab. (He had been hiding it in his mouth all this time). Chuck is still convinced that Dr. Kowambe’s tooth holds Ring intelligence. As Chuck puts it, “The truth is in the tooth.” Chuck pleads with Sarah not to give up on him and she swears she’ll get it tested.
Back at Castle, Sarah is disheartened to find he tooth is just a normal human tooth. In the Buy More, Morgan is worried about Chuck, so Casey tells him what’s been going on. Anna finds Morgan to talk to him, but after hearing the news about Chuck, he blows her off again. Later on, Sarah calls Chuck and tells him the tooth is human. Chuck begins to accept that he may be losing his mind.
Dr. Kowambe and his men visit Chuck and force their way into the hospital. This means Chuck was right, Dr. Kowambe is a bad guy – but no one else knows! Sarah visits Dr. Dreyfus and pleads with him to let her see Chuck, because she loves him. Dr. Dreyfus tells her she should let Chuck how she feels. However, Sarah isn’t the only one who wants to help Chuck; Casey is at Dr. Dreyfus’s house too.
Chuck tries to make a run for it; Dr. Kowambe captures him and the villain admits that Chuck took the wrong tooth. The fake one is in the front of Dr. Kowambe’s mouth. Chuck’s happy to hear this because it means he’s not crazy. Dr. Kowambe wants to know how Chuck knew about the secret intelligence. He injects Chuck with Tetraclydine, a psychotropic cocktail to get Chuck to tell him the truth. And after that, Dr. Kowambe will kill him.
Chuck is able to make a run for it, but the effects of the drugs are making him lose his balance. However, Chuck skill flashes on kung fu and tries to fight Dr. Kowambe and his men but to no avail; the drug has taken over his coordination. Just then, Merlin and the other crazy agents get ready to attack but are taken out by tranq guns. Things don’t look good for Chuck and he passes out on the floor. Sarah, Casey and Dr. Dreyfus come to save the day right in time.
General Beckman apologizes to Chuck for not believing him and finds out that Dr. Kowambe was illegally harvesting human organs, experimenting with genetic manipulation with the intent of selling this information to The Ring. Chuck makes another visit to Dr. Dreyfus to get his clean bill of health, but Dr. Dreyfus warns him that his dreams are proof of the stress the Intersect puts on his brain, which will eventually lead to serious mental deterioration. Time will only tell if Chuck will be okay.
Dr. Dreyfus suggests that Chuck tell Sarah about the risks of the Intersect, but when Sarah finally says to Chuck that she loves him, he chooses to keep it a secret. Meanwhile at the Buy More, Anna Wu wants Morgan back because he’s been ignoring her, but Morgan rejects her. Justin fools Ellie into getting in touch with her father. Later that night Chuck has another Shaw dream, and this time the bloody bullet holes in Shaw’s chest are gone, which means, in his dream at least, that Shaw could still be alive.
If you love Chuck please remember to make Chuck a trending topic on twitter, just add #savechuck on all your posts Monday nights and write NBC to tell them how much you love Chuck. I hope you enjoyed this recap! Please leave comments here or at twitter for me, I appreciate the feedback.

VulcanCon Recap – New Shanks Images and Dean Stockwell Video Panel
by whovian99 on May.10, 2010, under Battlestar Galactica, Celebrity Series, Christopher Lloyd, Dean Stockwell, Michael Shanks, Star Trek, Stargate, Vulcan Events, VulcanCon Tampa 2010
Wow! I still cannot believe the convention is over!
Of course, I say this after every convention. I am so happy Vulcan Events came to my home town. I’m hoping they return again next year because I would be more than thrilled to attend. For such a small convention, they certainly packed a lot into it. I’m still trying to absorb it all.
What stands out in my mind? Walking into the hotel lobby Friday night and seeing the DeLorean replica tricked out like the one from “Back to the Future.” Also memorable was realizing that Sally Kellerman can not only sing but has twice the energy I do — and ten times the coordination.
I think that was a great start to the convention for me. I’d gone in not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. And with just a 15 minute drive home that night, I felt spoiled.
Because VulcanCon was so close to home, my whole family was able to go. This was a first for us as a family and my youngest daughter’s first ever convention. We all got dressed up in Star Trek costumes and helped break a world record. It’s enough to make a major fangirl-geek-mommy like me cry. I’m proud of Allie for her great sense of humor and choosing a Wesley Crusher costume. I’m also proud that Erin made some of the coolest alien playdough animals I’ve ever seen. If anyone out there has ever wondered if conventions are good for families I hope this helps show how much fun it can be for kids (and adults) of all ages.
Who could ever forget the Guinness Book of World Records attempt on Saturday morning? I know I’ll never forget it. And not just because we were successful! There really is nothing like standing in a parking lot with Klingons, Starfleet Officers and aliens (including some Tribbles). It’s such a random thing yet I felt so at home with all those people. I’m hoping my girls will grow up being very proud of that moment. I’m certainly going to be telling the grandchildren that story. That is, in the distant future when I actually HAVE grandchildren.
The Christopher Lloyd panel was exciting. Everyone was treated to a little bit of Reverend Jim and Uncle Fester (of the Addams Family) and a good amount of Doc Brown. Mr. Lloyd is a talented man indeed. Of course some of my favorite moments were the cocktail party where I spent most the time talking to Michael Shanks and the banquet dinner with Christopher Lloyd. Talking to Mr. Shanks was as easy as talking to one of my friends. If only Doc Brown were real and that DeLorean in the hotel lobby really was capable of time travel. I’d relive that Saturday night over again.
Sunday I had the photo ops and autographs with Michael Shanks and Christopher Lloyd and the Dean Stockwell panel. I’m so happy I sprung for the photos. Even though I’m not a fan of getting my picture taken it is a great way to capture the moment, honestly, I am pleased with the quality of photos.
Kudos went to the photographer representing Vulcan Events. The autographs were included in my platinum ticket and I was more than happy to get those. After all, it gives the fans more time with the guests which is a huge part of going to the conventions. At least it is for me.
Dean Stockwell is someone I’ve always wanted to meet ever since “Quantum Leap.” I never knew that he had once worked with Errol Flynn. That’s just one of those random tidbits that typically comes out at panels — which is what makes them so great. Some conventions have a more formal setting for panels. For this event the panels were casual. Fans would ask questions right from their seats. A fan had asked Mr. Stockwell if he thought a reboot of “Quantum Leap” was possible.
Mr. Stockwell answered that there had been talk of a movie after the show was off the air but that was about it. I’m certainly in favor of a “Quantum Leap” reboot! It was obvious that so many fans have enjoyed Mr. Stockwell on “Battlestar Galactica” as well His panel is included below for your enjoyment.
Conventions are funny in that I wish I could go back again and do them differently. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy myself but because I
missed out on things I would have loved doing if I’d had more time. I really appreciate the guests for taking time out of their busy schedules and away from their families to spend a weekend with a bunch of fans. Who’s ready for the next one? ME!

Fun VulcanCon Interviews: What Fans Thought About Vulcan Events!
by whovian99 on May.08, 2010, under Battlestar Galactica, Celebrity Series, Christopher Lloyd, Dean Stockwell, Just for Fun, Michael Shanks, Star Trek, Stargate, VulcanCon Tampa 2010
Hey VulcanCon fans!
Before WHR posts my recap report and Dean Stockwell video panel, here are some very fun fan interviews about the great time we all had last weekend at the fantastic VulcanCon!
VulcanCon Day 3: Lloyd Shanks Stockwell – AND Michael Shanks Panel Video
by whovian99 on May.04, 2010, under Celebrity Series, Christopher Lloyd, Conventions 2010, Dean Stockwell, Michael Shanks, Stargate, Vulcan Events, VulcanCon Tampa 2010
Hey VulcanCon and SciFi Convention Fans,
Klingons were swimming in the pool. Or maybe that was a dream. It’s hard to tell when I’m at a convention. My room faced the hotel pool. If it wasn’t a group of Klingons running around at 3am making a huge racket out by the pool, I’m not sure who else it could have been. C’est la vie at conventions; not much sleep to be had.
This event was much more intimate than some of the others I’ve been to. In the morning I just needed to worry about packing up and getting breakfast and reading the morning paper which included an article about the Guinness World Record we set the day before.
My schedule started off with a photo op with Michael Shanks, followed by a photo op with Christopher Lloyd, the Michael Shanks panel (video included below), the Dean Stockwell panel (video to be posted with my future convention recap) and autographs with Shanks and Lloyd. My roommate Kimberly and I headed down to breakfast. It seems everyone else headed down for breakfast at the same time. There was a bit of a wait but eventually I got my eggs and bacon. After breakfast I checked out the vendor room. It was small but had several different vendors in it. I’m proud of myself for not buying a t-shirt.
My platinum ticket included a free one for the convention but it’s hard to pass up an SG-1 or SGA shirt. Somehow I managed. I realized it was time for my photo op with Michael Shanks so I decided to go line-up. I was about fifth in line. Nice! I would like to say there was a gentleman in front of me who let me go ahead of him so I could be with two of my friends. I’m not sure who you are, good sir, but thank you! Shout out to Sheryl and Deni! Thanks for keeping me company in the photo op line. Mr. Shanks arrived on time and the line moved quickly. Getting to chat with Mr. Shanks at the cocktail party the night before helped make me more at ease.
I smiled and walked up to Mr. Shanks. I said, “Hello again, Michael.” He smiled back and said, “Hello there. How are you?” I stood next to him, not really sure what type of pose we’d be doing. Mr. Shanks put his arm around me and then I felt him rest his head on mine. Permit me a small fangirl squee here, please. SQUEE! At that point I was hoping my deodorant hadn’t failed. And then it was over. I thanked Mr. Shanks, he thanked me and I was on my way.
I had a short break before my photo op with Christopher Lloyd. I used this time to pack up everything and check out of my hotel room. It’s always such a sad part of the convention. I certainly am prone to the post-con blues. So, with a heavy heart (and sore and tired body) I loaded my things into my husband’s car. Oh, he helped too. Then, back to the hotel I went. I found the line for the Christopher Lloyd photo op. If I’m remembering correctly, Mr. Lloyd showed up on time as well and the line moved quickly. I was very happy to see Mr. Lloyd again. When it was my turn for the photo op I walked up to Mr. Lloyd with my hand out.
I said, “Hello again! Thanks so much for having dinner with all of us last night. That was a lot of fun.” Mr. Lloyd shook my hand and said, “Oh yes, yes. Of course. It was fun. Thank you.” I stood next to him and he put his arm around me and hugged me too him. It was really sweet. The photographer took our picture and I thanked Mr. Lloyd. He said, “You’re welcome. Be well.” Seriously, this man is so sweet I think I could eat him with a spoon. If I didn’t know I’d be seeing him for autographs later I’d have had a lot of trouble leaving that room.
Next up was lunch. My husband, roommate and I left the hotel and drove to one of my husband’s favorite eating spots. I devoured my lunch and tried to get some thoughts about the con down on my netbook. Then it was time to head back so I’d make it in time for Michael Shank’s panel (video included below). I was thrilled to see that all the photos were ready. I think it’s a brilliant idea to have photo ops ready for the autograph sessions. VulcanCon gets two thumbs up for this! I found both my Michael Shanks and Christopher Lloyd photo ops. I have to say they aren’t hideous. Well, Mr. Shanks and Mr. Lloyd look great. I’m not cringing at my picture.
Then I found the picture from the dinner with Mr. Lloyd. That photo was included with the banquet dinner ticket. I think that’s a wonderful touch. Plus I’m able to show everyone the fantastic shirt Mr. Lloyd had worn to dinner that night. After picking up the photos I walked to the ballroom where Mr. Shanks panel was going to be held and found my seat. Soon Mr. Shanks was announced and the audience cheered and applauded as he came jogging out to the stage. Mr. Shanks always has great panels. He’s very charismatic, funny, quick and engages the audience. I knew I was in for a good time. I did not, however, think Mr. Shanks would actually take a balloon from nearby the stage and inhale helium. He did though! I can’t even describe how hilarious that is.
After thoroughly entertaining us with his munchkin voice, he took questions from the audience. He was asked about his time on Smallville as Hawkman. Mr. Shanks informed us that he’ll be in the season finale reprising his role as Hawkman. As a Smallville fan I have to say that was great to hear. Mr. Shanks also told a funny story about the Hawkman costume. The wings weigh about 35 pounds and a puppeteer was hired to move the wings. Mr. Shanks said this man wore a green suit as they shot the scenes in front of a green screen. He was kind enough to demonstrate how the puppeteer looked as he moved Hawkman’s wings. The puppeteer would squat down in an almost sumo stance and then pump his arms up and down to move the wings. I think everyone in the audience was cracking up about that.
Other questions for Mr. Shanks ranged from how his kids feel about their dad being on TV to how he came up with the voice for Thor. The next project for Michael Shanks is a movie entitled “Faces in the Crowd” with Milla Jovovich. I’m a big Milla Jovovich fan so I think I’ll be checking that project out. When asked if he had any zany stories to tell while working on USA’s “Burn Notice”, Mr. Shanks said nothing came to mind. He did say that really enjoyed working with Bruce Campbell. Another fan asked Mr. Shanks if he could have any job in the world what would it be. I was surprised when he did not skip a beat and said, “President of the United States! Uh… In a perfect world, of course.”
Dean Stockwell’s panel was literally right after Michael Shanks. WHR will include Dean’s panel with my recap report. Mr. Stockwell is certainly more reserved and soft spoken. He took questions about his work on “Quantum Leap” with Scott Bakula, BSG, his cameo role on “Enterprise” and things related to being an actor. Mr. Stockwell said working on “Quantum Leap” was like a dream come true. The cast crew always had a good time, made things fun and were like a family. He said the show had a reputation for being the one in which an actor would love working. He and Scott Bakula remain good friends to this day. When asked who he has enjoyed working with the most Mr. Stockwell did not hesitate in saying Errol Flynn.
Mr. Stockwell’s panel ended and autographs with Michael Shanks and Christopher Lloyd were next. This line went slower than the photo op lines. Autographs usually do go slower. Mr. Shanks signed my photo op and I thanked him for coming out. He said it had been his pleasure. Then I had to say good-bye. Well maybe not good-bye so much as “until next time.” And then I found the back of Christopher Lloyd’s line.
I handed my photo of Mr. Lloyd and me to the handler. I wondered if Mr. Lloyd would recognize me. He took the photo from the handler without looking up and went to sign it. Then he stopped. He looked at the photo a bit closer. He slowly lifted his head and looked at me. He stared at me for a moment and said, “YOU again, eh?” And I laughed and said, “Yep. Me again.” He gave me a huge smile. He signed my photo for me and shook my hand.
I thanked him for coming and told him I was thrilled to get to meet him. We said our good-byes and, again, Mr. Lloyd said, “Be well.” “You too,” I said.
And with that the convention was over. Would I suffer the post-con blues? Sure. However it’s hard to be too sad when you just spent the weekend with Daniel Jackson and Doc Brown.

VulcanCon 2010 Day 2 – Shanks Lexa and Christopher Lloyd Panel Video!
by whovian99 on May.02, 2010, under Celebrity Series, Charity News Series, Christopher Lloyd, Conventions 2010, Lexa Doig, Michael Shanks, Vulcan Events, VulcanCon Tampa 2010
Saturday May 01, 2010 started off crazy.
I had to take my sister to the airport at 4am. I raced back home and prepared for VulcanCon by Vulcan Events. The whole family wanted to help break into the Guinness Book of World Records for number of fans dressed as actual Star Trek characters. I decided on Jadzia Dax from Deep Space Nine.
Allie, my 15 (soon to be 16) year old daughter thought Wesley Crusher would be fun. Erin, my 8 (soon to be 9) year old daughter seemed perfect as Uhura. Jeremy, my husband went as an unnamed science officer.
Once inside the hotel , we noticed an impressive number of fans dressed as Star Trek characters in the lobby. Based on the large crowd, It looked quite possible we’d break the world record. I asked where we were supposed to meet and was told to hang out in the lobby. We waited… And waited… Um… and waited. I became engrossed in a conversation with my family and when I looked up it seemed someone had beamed up all the fans in costume. We walked outside of the hotel and realized everyone was meeting outside in the parking lot.
After signing a sheet that will be sent to the Guinness Book of World Records to confirm eligibility, we waited some more. And it was hot – the temperature had reached 92 degrees. If I was hot dressed as Jadzia Dax, just imagine how hot the guy in the almost full rubber alien suit felt! And then there were the Klingons. The poor Klingons not only wore a lot of hot clothing, but many of them had heavy weapons to carry around – one even had a large axe that shot fire 10 feet into the air. The sacrifices we geeks make for the cause of our fandom.
The entire group was asked to move to a section of the parking lot that was somewhat in the shade. The shorter people were sent to the front of the group facing a bridge. On the bridge were all those wanting to photograph the event. Everyone was having a good time even though it was ridiculously hot. And then an announcement that made the crowd cheer: We had enough people to set a new record for the Guinness Book of World Records! W00T!
But before we could head for the a/c, a rock band known as Sci-Fried wanted to film a music video to put on their website. How could we pass that up? Hot? Nah! Of course we want be in the video! I think it took maybe four takes and the band had the video they needed.
After the Guinness record attempt I changed out of my costume. Erin went to a kid activity. She made playdough alien animals. For someone like Erin who’s into arts and crafts, and a kid (or kid at heart), it was a great break from the convention.
The Christopher Lloyd panel was next. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from Mr. Lloyd. Would he seem like Doc Brown? Would I see a bit of Reverend Jim in him? Would he be funny? The answer to all these questions is a resounding YES! Mr. Lloyd is a funny, intelligent, sweet and gracious man. Fans asked him questions ranging from how he prepared for his roll in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” to what it was like playing Uncle Fester in “The Addam’s Family”.
One of my favorite moments was when a fan asked Mr. Lloyd to say “1.21 Gigawatts!” Suddenly Mr. Lloyd was gone and in his place was Doc Brown. He yelled out “1.21 Gigawatts!” I expected Michael J. Fox to come skate boarding up to the stage. When asked who he’d imagine playing him in a biographical movie, Mr. Lloyd didn’t hesitate to say, “Danny Devito!” I was surprised to learn that his next project will be “Death of a Salesman” at the Weston Playhouse Theatre in Vermont this summer. Believe me when I say the panel for this Emmy-winning actor was far too short. I wouldn’t have minded another hour.
I had a break after Christopher Lloyd’s panel so I went up to my room to get ready for the cocktail party. The banquet dinner was scheduled immediately after the cocktail party. I made my way down to the ballroom where both events were being held. I was the first person there but it wasn’t long before other fans showed up. We talked excitedly with each other about the guests we were going to meet. It wasn’t long before the doors to the ballroom were open and we were let inside. This was my first cocktail party so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Inside it was dimly lit and there was an open bar. I noticed Michael Shanks was talking to a couple of people and, being a true Gater and fangirl, I made my way over to him.
I broke the ice by thanking Mr. Shanks for the work he and his wife, Lexa Doig, do to help raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis. My mother suffers from the disease. Click the image below to visit MSAA Dot Org. Thank you.
Mr. Shanks informed me that his wife’s father also has MS so it is a cause of great personal interest to him. I, along with a few other fans, talked with Mr. Shanks about everything from Multiple Sclerosis, to raising children in an internet world, and to filming an episode of Stargate Universe.
Mr. Shanks was asked what it was like working with Robert Carlyle. He said Mr. Carlyle is a true professional and wonderful to work with. He caught himself watching the scenes instead of acting in them a couple times, it was that much fun watching Mr. Carlyle at work. When asked if Mr. Shanks has been watching SGU he said, “Not really.” He did say “SGU” is the type of show he has always wanted to work on because it allows the actor to delve into the character and bring them to life, flaws and all. He explained he thoroughly enjoyed working on Stargate SG-1. However, the personal side of the characters was usually diminished in favor of the main storyline. I asked Mr. Shanks if it was weird being back on a Stargate set that was very different from the one he worked on for so long. He said the crew was the same so it was a bit like coming home.
I can’t remember who brought up Twitter *innocent look* but Mr. Shanks said that while his wife (@lexashmexa on Twitter) likes being on there it’s not really something he gets. He said he knows his wife has a Twitter following that “does her bidding.” I smiled and said, “I am one of her minions.” He made a face at me and faked being irritated. Mr. Shanks doesn’t take himself too seriously. I think this is just one reason why he’s such a popular actor with the fans.
The cocktail party was over way too quickly. Fortunately the banquet dinner was next. I left the ballroom and walked over to where the banquet would be held. We were asked to sit and wait for our names to be called. Each person or group was asked which guest they would like to sit with for dinner. I was hoping to sit with Christopher Lloyd. I’ve been a fan of his since, well, a long time. I remember he won my heart in “Back to the Future” and broke it in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.” He won it back again in “The Addams Family.” Luck was on my side! When my name was called there was still room at Mr. Lloyds table.
My husband and I walked into the banquet room and found Mr. Lloyd’s table. I’ll admit to being nervous at first. However the other fans at the table were extremely nice and Mr. Lloyd was very easy to talk to. Soon I was at ease. We talked about the movies we love him in like “Back to the Future” and “The Addams Family” and what it was like to work with Andy Kauffman on “Taxi.”
Dinner was buffet style. We had Mr. Lloyd go first. Ever the gentleman, he passed out the plates to all of us and then stepped aside insisting we go first. It was a surreal moment for me. Does it get any cooler than having dinner with Doc Brown? I don’t think so. Back at the table the conversation continued. Then dessert. I’m not going to lie — the chocolate cake was amazing. And even though Mr. Lloyd was suffering through some serious jetlag, he stayed a long while chatting with us.
All good things must come to an end. My evening with Mr. Lloyd was no exception. I think there was a collective “ Awwww” from the table when it was over. Thankfully, VulcanCon still had one day left.
