About ValaBlack!

Top secret Daytime Drama BFF (Best Feline Friend) of ValaBlack?

Why of course that would be her kitty Squishy!

______________________________________________________________________

Hello people!

My name is Stephanie, but I’ll also answer to ValaBlack or Rebecca – that one is a long story, though, which would surely bore you. I first found this site when it joined up with Claudia Black Online to report on Dragon*Con and have been online-stalking celebrities through it ever since. I’m totally stoked to have to opportunity to become a reporter and contribute to this already excellentabulous website.

I’m relatively new to the sci-fi world. For almost eighteen years I lived in ignorance, believing it was totally weird to even watch science fiction, let alone fall in love with it. However, I have since learned the error of my ways. I’m a total geek and a total fangirl and I’m willing to openly admit to both. I blame this entirely on my best friend, who forced me (yes, it really wasn’t voluntary) to watch Stargate Atlantis. I hated the show on principle until one day she told me we weren’t going to watch it that night and I pouted until she conceded to change that. She never did let me forget that for once I was wrong and she was right, but I suppose I can get over that and admit that this one and only time I was mistaken.

From there, you’d think I would automatically watch Stargate SG-1, but actually, it was a long time before I got to that phase. First I got through all of Firefly and the rest of Stargate Atlantis, as well as a few other shows, but it’d take too long to list them all. One day, out of pure boredom and procrastination from a paper I was supposed to be writing for a class I hated, I looked up different storylines on SG-1. I spent about five hours trying to find an episode online and the next day sent my mother out to purchase the tenth season for me. I watched the whole season in about three days, then immediately re-watched once I was finished. I purchased all of the other seasons and watched them entirely out of order, but still fell completely in love with the series. It wasn’t long before I moved onto Farscape from there and watched the whole series and miniseries in about a week and a half, while still attending classes, writing two papers and doing a terribly difficult linguistics assignment. I have since gotten my best friend back by hooking her on Farscape.

This new-found love of sci-fi shows led me to become a regular poster on many websites, and meet some of my best internet friends. As well, I’ve participated in Stargate Atlantis RPGs, written several fanfictions – mainly for Daniel and Vala, create many icons/wallpapers/signatures, collect action figures, etc. I’m constantly being made fun of by my friends for quoting all of the time, but it’s definitely worth it.

As for personal information, I’m a university student. I’m very vain when it comes to my eyes, as one of my friends once told me that they remind her of something that came out of a fantasy novel. I love writing and reading all kinds of fiction – be it original or fan. I hope to go into journalism and/or publishing one day. I’m also completely addicted to facebook games of all kinds.

Well, you probably know more about me now than you ever wanted to, so I’ll leave it off here! I’m looking forward to covering Farscape Con in Burbank this year!

Xoxox Steph

Bio Questions and Answers

1. Handle/Screenname:

ValaBlack is generally my screenname for most things, although sites I’ve been on for a really long time have my username as treehillbabe, or some variation thereof.

2. Education/Awards/Etc:

I’m a student in University of Calgary for Communications & Culture.

3. Favorite Stargate characters:

Vala Mal Doran (in case my username didn’t make that obvious enough). Hands down. She’s hilarious and beautiful, while still having depth.

4. Favorite Actor/Actress:

Claudia Black, Michael Shanks, Felicia Day, Nathan Fillion, Simon Baker, Ellen Pompeo, Robin Tunney, Amanda Tapping, David Tennant and about a zillion others.

5. Favorite Band/Performer/s:

I don’t have a particular favorite; I mainly just listen to random music from random artists. I suppose I have the most music on my iPod from the Spice Girls, though. What can I say? I’m a child of the 90’s.

6. Hobbies:

Writing (both original and fan fiction), reading (same deal, though more so fan fiction these days), obsessing about whatever show I’m watching at the moment (does that count as a hobby?), chatting with people on twitter/facebook/various forums, making up words, doodling and drawing. That’s about it, as otherwise I’m being forced to study.

7. Pets:

I’m a total cat lady – I have four... Scaredy, Roxy, Timbit (aka Squishy), and Captain Jack Harkness (aka Fat Jack).

8. What's your theme song?

Song for Ten by Neil Hannon

9. If you could have a sidekick, who would it be?

A killer possum. I’m not sure why, but wouldn’t it be fun to laugh maniacally and then have a killer possum come out of nowhere and destroy your enemies? The looks on their faces alone would be enough to make me laugh for years to come.

10. Favorite food:

Macaroni and cheese, 54.2% dark chocolate (yes, I used to work in a chocolate shop), milk chocolate, strawberry yogurt, ring pops... Most unhealthy food.

11. What would you keep in a utility belt?

Probably nothing that would ever come of use to me in the real world... A camera, in case I saw any celebrities, a pen, a pad of paper, my cell phone, my iTouch, and a sonic screwdriver – because, let’s face it, a sonic screwdriver will solve any problem.

12. Favorite Television Shows:

ays of Our Lives, Farscape, Venice the Series, Community, Stargate SG-1, Gilmore Girls, Guiding Light, Grey's Anatomy, Bones, The Mentalist, Castle, The Big Bang Theory, Stargate Universe, Charmed, Firefly, Full House, Mad About You, Veronica Mars, 90210, One Tree Hill, How I Met Your Mother, etc. :P

13. What was your sci-fi gateway drug?:

Depends on the definition. My first ever actual sci-fi show was Doctor Who, but the one that got me into a bunch of others was Stargate Atlantis.

14. What's under your bed?

An old cell phone charger, a bag of tiny extras that came with action figures, some receipts for stuff I’ve probably already lost, art supplies and a bottle of water.

15. Favorite TV shows (not Stargate):

Farscape. But if you’re looking for one that’s not related to Stargate or Farscape, I guess it would be a tie between The Mentalist, Grey’s Anatomy and Castle, depending on my mood.

16. What is your dream job?

Absolute dream job that will probably never happen would either be a sci-fi actress or screenwriter. Something more realistic would be a publisher – I want to open my own publishing company eventually.

17. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

Wow, so many places. Anywhere in New Zealand, because I love the accents – same goes for Australia and Britain. New York would be pretty cool, as well. At the moment, I’ll go for Toronto, though, because that’s where I want to go to school and some of my best friends live there.

18. If your life could be written by any author who would it be and what genre?:

I guess my favorite author is Sophie Kinsella, so it would likely be a Chick Lit novel.

19. Favorite movies:

This is another one that varies with my mood, but I’m going to go with Kal Ho Naa Ho.

20. What are your goals/dreams/aspirations for WormholeRiders.Com?

For it to become one of the greatest websites for all-things Stargate and to provide as much news in as great a quality possible for all the sci-fi fans.
